Tell us about this design.
I'm a huge Tolkien fan, so I'm obviously really excited about the upcoming adaption. I wanted to make something that would tie in to a lot of his work, but also be something people could easily recognize with the films. This design incorporates a ton of visual cues from the movies and books, but can you name all the objects/items/characters?
Where are you from?
I have a one month old right now… so I'm a little delirious from lack of sleep. I think somewhere on the east coast?
Which art style would you most like to learn?
Always wanted to do more acrylic paints - something I haven't touched since college. For shirt design I want to really get better at halftones. It really adds a lot to the limited color options us designers have to work with.
If you had a time machine, which era would you visit first?
12,000 B.C… The Kingdom of Zeal! If I'm being realistic I wouldn't mind seeing the future. About 30 years. It's a nice round number. ;)
What goal do you most aspire towards?
Besides the typical like world domination? I would love to actually make a living with designing!
If you could stop any t-shirt trend in its tracks, which would you end? What trend would you like to see started?
"Keep Calm and…" It needs to go away, and NOW!
Would you rather fight a dragon or befriend a dragon?
I guess both options would let me ride the dragon, but I would rather the dragon not attempt to eat me when I dismount, so befriend sounds good!
Wizard vs. warrior: which would win the battle?
All I can think of is Diablo, and Elder Scrolls, and any game where a Wizard can sit back with a nice drink and launch fire, ice and lightning on some over encumbered Warrior. Now if the Warrior gets in close that's another story!
Describe the first shirt you ever designed.
It was actually about a year ago. "TheHookshot" was originally a Retro Gaming blog I created and updated. I was trying to find some ways to advertise the site and get the word out, so I created a shirt called "Got A Hookshot?" Pretty silly now that I look back (and it didn't sell anything), but you have to start somewhere! Now I'm simply known as The Hookshot because of that.
What has been your most inspiring art experience?
Before shirt design, or even web design (that I do for a living), I went to college for Film and Photography. I had a dream of becoming a famous director, and I really enjoyed making short films with my friends. It took a few years to truly realize, but I enjoyed designing the story boards and logos/effects more then anything else. Graphic Design was what I really wanted to do the rest of my life.
Any shout outs?
Thanks again to Teefury for their continued interest in my designs! Hope to see you guys again soon!
