Survival of the Craftiest
About the artistArt curated by
Tell us a bit about this design.
Well, this design was about conveying the most distilled forms of gameplay from the game. Surviving and Crafting. Sword for the action, attacking and defending.. the adventurous side of things and the pickaxe for the excavating the gathering the creation side of things. And instead of survival of the fittest in a Darwinian real world in the game only the craftiest will survive!
Where are you from?
I'm from Memphis, TN
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
That I make things I think they'd totally like!
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
That my weakness is....money. It's my kryptonite.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens.. oh no wait nevermind. My favorite things?
That feeling of a great new idea that you get to work on with other people. Everything's so bright and wonderful and full of possibility.
Comedy and humor and making people laugh.
Memphis BBQ (I'll throw sweet tea in here, too)
Time alone with your thoughts
Time around a bunch of friends
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
The kind of stuff I drew as a kid was like Dragonball Z "copies" (read: not tracings, very important) which later sorta developed into skateboarding drawings and then really primitive comics about games and girls and stuff.
For real though guys: Mario Paint.
What is your favorite thing about comics?
Comics are a wonderfully unique medium. It's this crazy bridge between a fully imagined world of reading and the direct presentational world of animation/movies. You're given some details and left to figure out others. To me it's the best of both worlds.
Cats vs. dogs: which would win the battle?
I've been indoctrinated from a young age to believe that cats would win in a fight. They're so conniving and evil by nature.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
It would have to be my Paul Robertson shirt. He does such wonderful pixel art and this shirt in particular has little pixelated sexy women which gets great looks (and compliments!) from people all the time.
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
On any given day... gaming of course! I love being participatory in someone's vision of a new kind of world or universe. That being said some of the best inspiration I've ever had has been from a good book or an enthralling movie.
What inspires your work?
So much does. Other artists, other works of creative expression allover. Design, Illustration, Comics, Animation are the big ones but when I'm making any type of art I can get inspiration from an overheard conversation at a cafe or from how two squirrels interact. Really for me it boils down to how people around me interact with one another.
Any shout outs?
Yes! I have to give a big shoutout to Kayla Cline who convinced me to submit to TeeFury in the first place. And to my great friends and fellow artists: Mathis Ryan, Justin Wheeler, Brittany Seiveno and Bryan Rollins
