Tell us a bit about this design.
I originally conceived this as a marriage of two of my favorite sci-fi properties. I wanted it to represent a balance between two equally great, iconic properties, and to hopefully showcase my love for each.
Where are you from?
I was born in Illinois, but moved to New Mexico in ’89. I’ve been here for the better part of 20 years now. It’s home… it’s where I keep all my stuff.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
Hmm… let’s see. I’ve been co-creating an epic story/comic with my best friend of 20 years (Gah, where has the time gone?) We started creating the story back in my freshman year of high school. It’s become this huge, epic sci-fi, space opera… and we’re pushing to finally get this mighty thing out of our heads, and ‘out there’ soon. When I’m not working on that, I’m a devoted husband (See babe, all those late nights when I’m chained to the drawing table are finally startin’ to pay off!). We have 3 adorable (and sometimes bratty) kidlets, and between my ‘day job’, spending time with my family, raising a gaggle of kids, it’s been a struggle to get in the time I need to draw… my only solution has been to cut back my sleep to about 4 hours a night. From about 8pm (kids bedtime) till about 2am, I’m drawing. It’s ‘me’ time!
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
I’m not wearing pants right now… NO TIME FOR PANTS!
Name a few of your favorite things.
Cue the song from “The Sound of Music”…
Well, for starters… I’m totally addicted to my wife. I ‘lurve’ that lady! So much so, that I annoy the hell outta her, all the time. I love my family… my kids are… noisy, ornery, and argumentative, but they’re also creative, funny, and brilliant little buggers! (I claim them as my intellectual property!)
I’ve been in love with drawing since I was old enough to hold a crayon. And since my dad collected comics for most of my childhood, the idea of creating comics was definitely a huge part of my life from early on. And obviously Star Wars (yes, I have my issues with the prequels, who doesn’t), and Firefly.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
I’m told I used to draw these elaborate space battle scenes… Star Destroyers, Tie Fighters and X-wings, and then totally destroy them with crayon laser blasts, till everything was pretty much covered up… much to the chagrin of my grandma who wanted to put them on her fridge. Besides that, I remember drawing little G.I. Joe comic books and hand stapling them together to give to my mom & dad.
What is your favorite thing about sci-fi?
I think for me, it’s really about the challenge of creating imaginary worlds and technology… oh, and of course... hoverboards. Just in the last 15 to 20 years we’ve seen such amazing advances in the technology around us… the internet, cell phones, computers and tablets, the Kinect, touch interfaces, and voice recognition. I love that our Sci-Fi creators invent these future technological marvels for stories set 50 or 100 years in the future, and that real world science is able to achieve some of these impossible things in 20 or 30 years. SO… SCIENCE… WHERE’S MY HOVERBOARD!
Swords vs. lasers: which would win the battle?
What about ‘laser swords’ – Lightsabers FTW! Seriously though… if I had to go with just one… since any sort of laser that’s ‘interesting’ is typically housed in a small research building… takes massive amounts of energy just to cool, and let’s face it… we don’t have anything quite up to par with a good ol’ fashioned Han Solo Blaster just yet, I’m going to have to put my weight behind a good ol’ trusty sword. Hack! Slash! Repeat!
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
I hate to admit, I didn’t even know about TeeFury till August of this year. That being said, you have to remember also, that I have THREE kids, do you have any idea when the last time I was able to buy a shirt just for me!) I’m hoping that will change up soon though, with a little extra ‘scratch’, I’m planning on jumping on some of the great designs I see here… I’ll be proud to wave my geek flag high!
Right now, my favorite shirt is just some random Green Day shirt I bought for my wife 4 years ago, when I was in Louisville, KY, at the Hard Rock there. She used to really like Green Day, I’m not really even much of a fan or anything, the shirt is just helluva comfy. I kinda stole it back from her just because I liked how it fit so much. (Hope she’s not reading this)
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I’m a fan of all three. That’s kinda tough, because the list is constantly evolving… But let’s see… I’m going to go with Reading. I’ve been on a kick lately, re-reading Bone by Jeff Smith. Re-immersing myself in his story, and his immaculate illustrations. I love this man. I’d love to get a chance to meet him someday, shake the hand that did so many of my favorite drawings. But I don’t know if I could manage anything more than… “You draw purty!” if I did meet him.
What inspires your work?
SOoooo many things. The REALLY short list… I’m a sucker for Star Wars… what can I say. That’s probably still the biggest inspiration of all… ever since I was a kid, Star Wars has informed, inspired, and introduced me to so many other great things. It all goes back to the day my folks took me to a local, small town theatre when I was just a year old, and having my mind blown by all these fascinating and amazing sights and sounds. Yeah… it was all that to me.

He’s the one that planted the idea in my head to post a design to TeeFury, and he has been incredibly gracious in giving me some of his time and insight. Also, I’d like to thank my best friend Neil – for always having faith in my abilities (even when I didn’t sometimes), and for always giving me that push to keep at it… to keep drawing. And to my good buddy Richard (TK-7883) who’s always shared my love of Star Wars, Stormtroopers, and Sci-Fi.

White shirts get dirty and stained far too quickly plus they tend to look "cheap". I have no problem with brown.
There is just something odd about today's tee that I can't put my finger on. Something just seems off.
