About the artist
Punksthetic
Tell us a bit about this design.
Mash-ups are en vogue right now, so I thought I'd do my own little spin on things. I actually woke up one morning with this idea and knew I just had to make it a reality. Anyone worth their salt in regards to Young Adult books will likely get the references. ;)
Where are you from?
Originally, I'm from Brooklyn, New York. I had my childhood there. Then we moved to Orlando, Florida where I had another childhood... Then I moved to Portland, Oregon, because that's where adult children apparently go.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
I think people should know that I'm a huge fan of Steampunk as well as all the other factions related to it (Cyberpunk, Dieselpunk, Sci-Fi, Fantasy, Retrofuturisticpunkorwhatever, etc.). I try to incorporate those elements in my work whenever I can. A lot of my passion also lies in storytelling, and I'm currently in the process of writing a book called The Immortals, which I've been working on for a few years now. If you love a good Steampunk/Fantasy story, check it out!: http://punksthetic.weebly.com/graphic-novel.html
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
That I've climbed my way to the top of the freelance artist ladder by inhabiting the skin of other, successful freelance designers over the years. I'm basically wearing like 7 artist's skins right now and it all feels very squishy in here... also, very hot and bloody, like a pulled pork sandwich.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Bagels. Iced Coffee. Peanut Butter. Cookies. Pizza. All the bad food groups, basically. Watching movies and prerecorded TV shows with my girlfriend, Sam. Raiding clubs. Lisa Frank fuzzy stickers. Lunch boxes. Parent/Teacher meetings.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
I doodled things mostly. I loved drawing Daffy Duck, Donald Duck, Darkwing Duck, Scrooge McDuck... All the ducks, basically. Something about those duck bills of theirs fascinated my younger self... also, Mario, Ninja Turtles, Looney Tunes, and whatever else was on TV in the early 90's. I was raised a couch potato, so I guess I was a tater tot when I was a kid... I also liked to leach off my dad's art style and emulated him a fair bit before I established my own style. When I became a bigger kid in my teenage years, I drew inspiration from Rare games like Banjo-Kazooie, Conker and Donkey Kong, as well as games like Jak & Daxter, Ratchet & Clank and Sly Cooper. I consider myself a fan of cartoony things, which I guess leaks into my artwork. :)
What is your favorite thing about magic?
Seriously, I love that there's always a trade-off to using magic in any good story. It's not always going to solve all your problems, just stave them off for a bit. A great story uses character's wits to get them out of situations, while magic is used in emergencies only, not to do mundane things like passing a book from one side of the room to the other because you're too lazy to get up and go get it. In Harry Potter, for example, magic is utilized for a reason, not just to look cool.
Summer Olympics vs. Winter Olympics: which would win the battle?
I'm guessing Winter Olympics because at least they have snow. It's much more festive than some people in tight clothing sweating from their nether regions. All they need is some Christmas lights and candy canes and I can really get in the spirit. Also, when are they going to make Olympic games based on the legends of Rudolph and Santa and Jack Frost and all that? Jack Frost trying to prevent Santa from delivering presents to children by causing snow storms while Rudolph lights the way with his light saber nose? Hello? How is this not an epicly genius idea?
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
Well, that shirt would have to be OPTIMUS TIME by AtomicRocket! As soon as I SAW this shirt, I KNEW I had to have it. I LOVE Back to the Future, and though I'm not a huge fan of Transformers, the idea was just TOO awesome to pass up in shirt form... so I GOT dat shirt... and now I WEAR it. All the time. And it's stinky. But cool-looking, still.
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
Haha. I've just been waiting for a question like this... Better be... GRYFFINDOR!!! I, uh... I mean watching movies. Because I'm a huge film buff. Back to the Future has been my favorite film (and trilogy) since I was a teenager. The way those movies generate tension and how the climaxes just work so incredibly well just gets me every time. From the score to the art direction, everything just culminates into a cinematic rush of excitement!
What inspires your work?
Movies for the most part, both from a visual and a storytelling standpoint. I think the last movie to really give me those artist's chills was Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World... Edgar Wright? More like Edgar Wright NOW. Come over here... *Furiously makes out with Edgar Wright*

Hey, don't feel too bad. I ordered 12 shirts last time and only liked 3 of them. They even sent 2 of them same shirt that I didn't like.
I wish they would have them at $6 each if you buy 12 of any of those 64 designs of YOUR choice! I'd blow a fortune then!

I'll admire the art in all of it's glory, but I'm afraid I'll have to pass.
