About the artist
Tell us a bit about this design.
The design is based on what I think is one of the best comeback lines in superhero summer movie history. "Take away the suit of armor and what are you?" "Uh, genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist". It's a very exclusive club to be in. I imagine Tony giving Steve this shirt as a gag gift at Christmas.
Where are you from?
New Brunswick, Canada. It's on the East Coast of Canada and shares a border with Maine.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
I'm kind of new at the t-shirt design game. This is my first submission to Teefury and my first printed tee design for retail. I don't have a lot of stuff out there yet as far as my web presence goes, but I hope to do more and get much better at it.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
I've never seen an episode of Firefly and only a few Doctor Who episodes. My gaming experience is pretty spotty. I played some NES, N64 and some PS2 but I've never played Portal, Gears of War, Halo, Call of Duty, etc. Right now I'm still playing retro 8-bit NES games. I'm stuck trying to land one of those tricky spinning jumps in Ninja Gaiden right now.
Name a few of your favorite things.
I love being a geek Dad and getting my kids interested in all of the stuff I liked when I was a kid like Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Spider-Man and Superman. My son loves watching Christopher Reeve Superman scenes on his ipad and my daughter knows the names of most of the major Avengers and JLA characters just from the posters in my office. I also like to show an interest in the stuff they like - my daughter has me totally hooked on Phineas & Ferb.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
I did a lot of drawings of superheroes, cartoon characters, monsters, robots.
What is your favorite thing about comic books?
I remember vividly what it felt like to be a kid reading those comic pages again and again, the smell of the cheap newsprint, reading the old ads and anticipating the next part of the adventure coming next month. I still like the superhero adventures, but I also appreciate great, real life type of stories done in the comic medium - like the Essex County trilogy by Jeff Lemire.
Super-smarts vs. super-strength: which would win the battle?
Super-smarts - I can't count how many times have I seen Batman outsmart super-strong heroes and/or villains.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
A friend of mine gave me an Avengers t-shirt that features various members of the Avengers from the comics. It's mostly the lesser known members and my daughter likes asking me questions about the characters.
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I'm way behind on gaming, so it's between reading and watching movies... I'm reading mostly serious life advice stuff right now - not anything geek related - so I'll go with watching movies. Current favorite is The Iron Giant.
What inspires your work?
Money - cold hard cash! Just kidding - it's not as bad as that sounds. My main reason for entering contests and crowd-sourcing kind of stuff has been to raise money for things that I need but can't afford within my regular budget. I started doing it to get an ipad and language software for my son who is autistic. I was able to accomplish that by winning a couple of contests and I would like to get some more specialized items that my son and daughter can both enjoy like a tandem bike for special needs, or if my wife will let me - a bouncy castle for the backyard. :)
Any shout outs?
Good luck to everyone out there who is creating cool art and having fun, I hope to see you around!
