About the artist

Tell us a bit about this design.
It's inspired by the classic John Carpenter film. I thought it would be fun to do a "Big Daddy Roth" style homage to Lo Pan (James Hong) with his two wives and a monkey monster to chauffeur his heavenly hotrod through the hell of the too-cool-to-stay-dead sinners. The Chinese characters say "Lo Pan Express". I gave a print to James Hong at SDCC and he confirmed that I got it right.
Where are you from?
Dallas, Texas.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
I'm an illustrator and graphic designer with an insatiable love of pulp, sci-fi and fantasy. I also have a weakness for BBQ and baked goods... and pure cane sugar Dr.Pepper. That stuff is the nectar of the gods.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
Nice try! I'm not falling for that one.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and... Just kidding!
My wife Lisa, Star Wars, Big Bang Theory, Books, Pulp Art, Pin-Ups, Dr. Who, The Venture Brothers, the list goes on...
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
A lot of Star Wars and Lord of the Rings drawings.
What is your favorite thing about action movies?
The elaborate, well thought out plots and the in-depth character development.
The action, of course! I like a really good chase scene.
Cake vs. cupcake: which would win the battle?
Ooooohhhh... that's a tough one. With cupcakes, due to their small size, you have the opportunity to try multiple flavors. With cakes though, you get sheer volume and they tend to retain their moistness. It's a very close call, but I think think cake just barely noses out cupcakes for me.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
How could you ask that?!?! That's like asking a mother which of her children she loves more!
I guess if I had to choose one, it would be my House Industries Rat Fink shirt. It's got the perfect mix of style, versatility and comfort.
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
Probably reading. Movies are a VERY close second. I don't think I can nail it down to any one book, but lately I've really been enjoying George R. R. Martins "Song of Ice and Fire" series and pretty much anything by Christopher Moore.
What inspires your work?
Any and everything. I never know what I'll get inspiration from. The main things that tend to inspire me are movies, old pulp art, pin-ups and whatever else might strike a chord deep down.
Any shout outs?
A big thank you to my wife for putting up with my crazy, erratic schedule. You're the best!
