Yo Gamma Gamma!
About the artistArt curated by
Tell us about this design.
I was actually in the middle of building one of the new Lego sets and while constructing a certain angry green minifig a friend walked in and said “Yo!”...that’s when it hit me. I thought it was so ridiculous that it had to be a shirt.
Where are you from?
A sleepy little coastal town in Devon, England. A place not far removed from ‘the village of the damned’ or ‘invasion of the body snatchers’ because when people reach their twenties they seem to vanish and only return to at the age of retirement. The conspiracy holds true because I moved to Canada at the end of my twenties hah!
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
Art runs in my family so drawing has always been a huge part of my life. At university I studied photography but recently rediscovered my pencil and pad again. I started to play around with Illustrator and picked things up pretty fast. I found that people online were more willing to pay for a custom tee than a photograph so I grabbed the bull by the horns so to speak and here I am.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Don’t stop....believing! *cough*. Well, you should keep at it no matter how many knocks you might take a long the way. Also, listen to those in the know, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the encouragement of my peers.
What would be your dream job?
Working from home and being my own boss is pretty much a dream come true for me. After years of retail and answering to people the thought of going back to that sends shivers down my spine. I wouldn’t say I’m living the dream but I certainly like waking up in the mornings now.
What is your favorite thing about gaming?
Total escapism and being able to do things I’d never get to do in real life.
What would your ideal house be like?
I would love to have a home large enough to display all my toys and collectables. A room for each genre/series of toy - Transformers, Star Wars, Comic book figures and Lego to name but a few.
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Movies have been a big part of my life so much so that in my teens I got a job at my local cinema which I ended up staying in for over fifteen years. I worked my way up the ranks from usher to projectionist and finally the manager. I will always remember when my mum took me to see the animated Transformers movie, with all the flashing lights and loud explosions she still managed to fall fast asleep and snore throughout.
What are a few of your favorite websites?
Any shout outs?
