About the artist

Tell us about this design.
This was a piece I drew for myself. It's a popular piece that was featured in the 2010 edition of Spectrum: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art. It features H.P. in the foreground with marauding tentacles in the back. I tried to convey the repulsive nature of the creatures that haunt Lovecraft's universe. I felt that having it covered with flies implies a stench. The reality of the beast is further underscored by it's effect on base life forms, such as insects.
Where are you from?
Still from NYC. :D
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
I used to work at a silkscreen factory back in the late 80s. I had the freedom to create some of my own t-shirts there. Small runs. I even did a Tim Burton t-shirt. Believe it or not I was able to get his office address and sent one of the t-shirts, along with some samples of my art. It was shipped overnight. The following day I get a phone call from his secretary confirming that the package was received. Needless to say I was floored. She asked me if I'd be willing to relocate to California and I was like, "Uhhh…YEAH!" She said he would definitely get the package. Nothing ever came of it, but at least I have this story. :)
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Try to be interesting and/or clever with your concepts.
What would be your dream job?
To be an artist who gets paid a lot of money.
What is your favorite thing about history?
Fashion.
What would your ideal house be like?
The Royal Tenenbaums house.
Apples vs. oranges: which would win the battle?
That's a hard one. I'd have to say apples.
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Horror magazines. Specifically Warren publications. They published CREEPY, EERIE, and VAMPIRELLA magazines. They were one of my biggest influence as an up and coming artist. In fact, it's a Creepy magazine t-shirt that got me the nickname "Creepy Seb." Creepy magazine used to sell t-shirts with their logo and a cover image. My mother bought me one and one of my brother's friends saw me wearing the t-shirt and coined the nickname. The full nickname was "Creepy Seb and his monster boots" because I would also wear these big goofy boots at the time. Now it's just Creepy Seb. ;)
What are a few of your favorite websites?
Teefury.com and JohnCebollero.com! ;D
Any shout outs?
To all you fine people for your kind words and support!

It is a caricature not meant to be exactly like him, portrait or otherwise . You should look at his other work through the link to his website . His pencil/pen&ink work is awesome . I wish half the artists on here were as good....wait no I don't,because I would be buying way to many shirts.

The same could be said about Dr. who, star trek, star wars, or any popular tv show on right now...

I have one of their glow-in-the-dark shirts and it seems just fine. I've worn, washed, and packed it with all my other clothes loads of times and it's as good as new.

I will forgive the artist this time because even due to the misproportioning, he did seem to capture the certain jea ne se quoi that makes our Master respected and feared by all.
