About the artist
Tell us a bit about this design.
Well, it's really my love letter to the film. It took about 2 days to complete, and was really a lot of fun. The design doesn't quite encompass the entire story as much as it does certain aspects, like Sara and Jareth. As well as some of my favorite parts, the talking stones and of course the goblins. I always loved the end of the movie too, I love it when films make you ask yourself if it was all real. There's nothing like letting the audience use their imagination so I really wanted to incorporate the fact that it could all just be in her head.
Where are you from?
I grew up in San Luis Obispo county in California, but I've been in LA about 3 years now and I love it here.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
If the opportunity presented itself I would give myself, spiritually and sexually to David Bowie. In an instant. Also, again if the opportunity presented itself, I would sacrifice myself in order for the rest of the world to continue to have pizza. If it came down to me or pizza for all, I would choose pizza for all.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
My secret identity of course. That's all your getting.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Pizza (duh), death metal, comics, movies, art in general, and of course David Bowie.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
Very, very, very crude drawings of Power Rangers. Then I moved onto creating equally crude drawings of my own characters.
What is your favorite thing about comics?
The freedom. The escapism. The ability to tell a story just as well as any book or movie and have limitless possibilities, to not be hampered by a budget or actors or technology. Comics can be told by anyone, all you need is a pencil, paper, and imagination, everything else is accessory. The only thing that can truly stop you from working on them is death, and if you die comics will outlive you. It's nice to know that they will be around after me.
Coffee vs. tea: which would win the battle?
If it's a battle for my health then Im with Tea, if the battle is for instant zing and frappuccinos (which Im highly susceptible to) I'm with Coffee.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
My favorite has to a be one I picked up back in 2006, it's black with screen printing of a skull with some red birds flying around it. I bought it at a garage sale while I studied at CalArts for $7 from a kind lady was selling various shirts she had printed as an experiment a long with some other cool stuff like a garage sale. To this day it has never faded, it hasn't shrunk, the printing has never worn or cracked. It's absolutely tops and one of a kind.
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I would be lying if I said books, which I do love, but Im not that cool or knowledgeable. My favorite is definitely movies. I've learned more about visual storytelling form then than anything else. My favorite movie is a toss up between Brazil and Conan The Barbarian (the original Arnold classic).
What inspires your work?
A lot of things! Movies (see above), anime, music, comics, other artists. Art wise my own work tends to lean toward the macabre at times and I love darker work, I find that it's filled with more intrigue. But really I love whatever takes me out of my own life. Don't get me wrong, I love my life, but I live it every day. I love anything that can take me mentally to other worlds and make me care for other characters. Anything that fills me with wonder and pushes my own imagination truly inspires me.
