Tell us about this design.
Wizards are freaking awesome. Spells, Potions, Wands, Caldrons… Wizards get to use the coolest things. I wanted to create a design that was simple, but captured the "Magic" (pun intended) of being a Wizard!
Where are you from?
I currently live in Morrisville, NC… and I'm NOT a fan of this vinegar BBQ thing they've got going on here!
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
I've been a graphic and web designer for about 10 years now, but about 9 months ago I began creating retro gaming art and putting it on Redbubble. Surprisingly, some people actually bought some of those designs. Needless to say I caught the T-shirt Designing Bug! I did my research and started to learn everything I could to improve my craft. Designing shirts has been an amazing experience so far!
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Make the kind of work you love to make, but don't be afraid to try something new. There are hundreds of designers out there that might be better then you (and me!) but don't let that discourage you from practicing your craft. It's also good to know your audience and be aware of what they might want out of a design. I find that simplicity is usually going to catch someones eye, so don't overcomplicate things.
What would be your dream job?
I guess sitting on my butt designing things doesn't count? Well, I would love to be a Creative Director like Todd Howard… but I just wouldn't have the necessary patience, or stomach to make those big decisions. "What? Skyrim is lagging like crazy on the PS3? Eh, ship it anyways."
What is your favorite thing about magic?
You can do pretty much ANYTHING with it! Say I want that book over there? Telekinesis spell baby! Someone annoying you? Throw some lightning his way. There are so many branches of magic and so many possibilities!
What would your ideal house be like?
I'm a simple guy with simple tastes. It just has to be in the Caribbean with a MASSIVE media room and a robotic slave.
Mage vs. warrior: which would win the battle?
Mage - easily. Just make sure you have a pocket full of mana potions. The warrior won't even take a step before being devoured by fireballs, lightning and unread servants!
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
I was never into comics a lot as a kid, but I'm a big cartoon and movie buff! I loved DuckTales, Rurouni Kenshin, Gargoyles, and pretty much all the Disney afternoon lineup!
What are a few of your favorite websites?
I always check Tshirtroundup.com and Shirtoid.com to see the newest designs. I also love Ign.com, Screwattack.com and a good helping of Racketboy.com to get my retro fix.
Any shout outs?
My wife and 2 year old daughter for putting up with my sudden shirt design "inspirations." I'm sure they're tired of hearing about my next big idea! Oh, and be sure to check out my site: thehookshot.com for upcoming designs!
