I have always loved drawing plants and botanical imagery, and classic 80's movies. Here I have combined these two loves of mine into this design devoted to the meanest, greenest mama from outer space and the humorously named flower shop that helped her grow.

Beyond space, beyond time - I come from the place behind the stars. This place is sometimes called New York City, and it is super awesome. Surprise twist: I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

A good buddy of mine began making shirts for various tee sites and suggested I do the same. It is definitely a very different style from my usual artwork which is often really elaborate and detailed - this makes it fun and challenging since I have had to really think about my work in a different way.

Perseverance! It might take awhile to get your first print, but you need to keep getting back on that bike if you want to succeed. Actually, I think that applies for most things in life.

If I were to choose a profession other than one making lots of money in the visual arts field, I would totally choose some kind of travel and food critic job, y'know, like Anthony Bourdain. Go to exotic places and eat fancy foods? Yes, please.

I like that monsters are reflections of ourselves, and that they are so often just looking to find love and acceptance (I'm thinking of the classic horror movie monsters like Frankenstein and the Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, etc). Of course, then there are the ultimate cosmic horrors from H.P. Lovecraft which are just fun for being alien and too impossible for our fragile human minds to comprehend - I guess those teach us that the universe really just wants to eat us, I like that too.

I'd love to live in a huge tree house, with lots of open spaces and bird feeders and things. There would also have to be a slide, I love slides.

No question there, the robots would win. Robots can live in outer space - they don't need to breathe; the astronauts are screwed.

I loved lots of tv cartoons growing up, but I think my exposure to comics really influenced my tastes as I got older. When I was really, really little in Brazil I read kids comics like Cebolinha and Monica, and later when I was here in the U.S. I read some of the Archie comics. At some point though, I remember finding some Basil Wolverton and R.Crumb stuff in a box in the basement at my grandparents house - and then when I was 12  someone gave me one of the Dark Horse reprints of Moebius' Arzach comic - I think it was this alternative stuff that really gave me a taste for weirder darker side of comics and art.

I'm really into foraging for imagery on the internet, so I'm a big fan of platforms like Pinterest and Tumblr that let me sort through and organize lots and lots of images. If you're into those sorts of things you can find and follow me under rebekieb on both sites.

Here's a shout out to my Mum and all my friends who have supported me as I make the transition into a full time, for serious artist type person. Without their support I might still be working a 9-5 job that I hate, rather than going to art school and selling designs to fine establishments like TeeFury. Ya'll are awesome, and I love you.
