Tell us about this design.
Apalooza: This is a design I had rolling around in my head and was working on for a few days when I decided I did not like the way it was coming out. I got together with midgerock because I love, and I mean *LOVE* his zombie/undead style. We discussed it a bit went through a few iterations and POOF what you see here is the end result. Mashups are sort of “my thing” and I am huge Trek fan and love the Zombie Apocalypse mythos. I have had many debates about the proper use of Romero-esqe slow zombies and more modern fast zombies in media over a pint or two of Guinness.
midgerock: yup! What that guy said!
Where are you from?
Apalooza: Living in New Joisey but actually a true Lawnguylander. (You have to be a Lawnguylander to really know what that means.) An ordinary guy. A typesetter/graphic designer way back in the day, I became a computer dude; a really good computer dude but now getting back into design again. Keeping those creative juices flowing. I am such a sci-fi geek and I love mash-up designs so my work tends to include both.
midgerock: Cleveland, OH… for now.
What has been your most adventurous moment?
Apalooza: My friend's boat simply dies on us this one time. We are going back many years no cell and the radio won’t work. I actually tie a rope to the boat grab the other end slowly swim back to shore, boat in tow. That was pretty wild. Kinda something Capt. Kirk might do don’t ya think?
midgerock: This one time I hunted this group whose boat died in the middle of a lake. I put sugar in the gas tank so they would be stalled out in the middle of nowhere with no cell service and radio signals. I was going to start picking them off one by one but the one guy jumps out the boat with a rope tied around him and starts swimming pulling the boat in tow. I was so impressed I let them go… that was pretty adventurous for me.
What has been the most valuable advice you've been given?
Apalooza: Well this goes back to the beginning of my teenage years and is not so relevant now that I am happily married but it was, “Check for sores.”
midgerock: “Check your pores ” skin health is very important. It puts the lotion on…
If you had a theme song, what would it be?
Apalooza: I would want a soundtrack, like Peter Griffin has when he gets his genie and three wishes... “Ridin’ on the bus, Ridin’ on the bus...” and all the other cool sounds.
midgerock: Tubular Bells
What is your favorite thing about horror?
Apalooza: No Comment
midgerock: The scariest schtuff has and needs no explanation.
Lightsabers vs. phasers: which would win the battle?
Apalooza: I assume the lightsaber is in the hands of a Jedi or Sith so, yeah lightsaber.
Describe the strangest shirt you own.
Apalooza: I do not own anything strange.
midgerock: its more of a suit…
What would be your dream project to work on?
Apalooza: A charity collab with the RBC!
midgerock: There’s this one recipe I have been dying to try but I have trouble hunting down “certain” ingredients…
Any shout outs?
Apalooza: Midgerock for sure! Hi there Midge! Also to my kids who help me with the more current pop culture out there, and finally all the members of the RBC who have helped me get better at design each day!
midgerock: Yes I’m here Apalooza… I am always here… waiting… patiently waiting… also, Betty White.
