Plants Vs Plumbers
About the artistArt curated by
Tell us a bit about this design.
This design is about the epic struggle between Piranha Plants and plumbers! Zombie plumbers, actually. It's a war that's been raging for ages.
Where are you from?
I'm from a very small town on the south shore of England called Sidmouth. It's quite common there to go out for ice cream on cold, rainy winter days, which is either a testament to our will, or evidence of our addiction to ice cream. Anyhoo I now live in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which has lots of rainy winter days, but sadly no seaside ice cream at this time of year.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
I'm a massive fan of 80s toys, cartoons and the culture in general. I feel lucky to have grown up during such a wild decade.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
I buried my Princess Leia action figure, and years later my father dug it up. However, it had no head. That's always freaked me out.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Transformers, ice cream, Star Wars, cheesecake, Lego, toad in the hole…. Hmm, now that I write this out, I think I see a pattern.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
I loved to draw monsters and superheroes, and I actually used to draw up my friends as X-men. And speaking of friends, one of my mates used to draw nothing but characters from Coronation Street. Yeah, that was weird.
What is your favorite thing about photography?
I love capturing candid pictures of people being people. It's just so much more interesting than people posing for a camera — the moment a person becomes aware that the camera is pointed at them, they become someone else and less interesting.
Coffee vs. tea: which would win the battle?
If the battle is for my heart (er… stomach), then they would both lose! I much prefer a gourmet hot chocolate or white chocolate mocha. Anything that tastes like ice cream, really.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
It's hard to pick just one, really. I have that awesome Scott Pilgrim tee by Bamboota and Vote Smuggler by Ian Leino. However I think my favourite has to be a Transformers tee that has a light up Decepticon logo! You can even change the light patterns with the push of a button!
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I worked at a cinema for over 15 years and in that time consumed a lot of movies, many I wouldn’t have chosen to watch. (Unfortunately this means I have seen Titanic over 60 times, something that still haunts me to this day.) If I had to watch one movie over and over again, however, it would have to be Empire Strikes Back. Even at the age of five I knew there was something different and special about it.
What inspires your work?
Pop culture mainly in the form of comics, video games and 80s cartoons. Perhaps I spend too much time trying to popularize obscure shows that only a handful of people remember.
Any shout outs?
So many people to mention and I know I will miss some so I apologize!
