About the artist
Tell us about this design.
This design was inspired by the traditional silhouette of Sherlock Holmes from the novels. The silhouette has been updated to that of the lead actor for the current Sherlock series. It has been overlaid with the skull, which has then been filled with imagery relevant to both modern and classic adaptations of Sherlock.
Where are you from?
Beautiful ol’ New Zealand.
How would you describe your style?
I like to say that I’m quite varied in my style, however I am fond of doing quite ‘clean’ illustrative designs.
If you could collaborate with anyone else, who would you pick?
I would love to collaborate with any one of the talented people who make up Weta Workshops sculpture department. They do some truly amazing work, so to collaborate with one of them would be a dream come true.
What historical figure do you most admire?
I certainly admire Vincent van Gogh for his amazing artistic talent. His art uses such vivid colours and depth of beauty, I can only dream of ever becoming as good of a painter as him.
If you weren't designing shirts, what would you be doing?
I’d be working on sculptures. I’m a big fan of sculpting, especially animals and mythical creatures such as dragons.
Would you rather wear a fez (like a Doctor) or a deerstalker (like Sherlock)?
Ooh, very tough question. As cool as fezzes may be, I’m probably more likely to be seen in a deerstalker.
Brains vs. brawn: which would win the battle?
Definitely brains. Take Sherlock Holmes or The Doctor, for example. They’ve faced all assortments of baddies and always ended out on top because they have such intelligence and know how to use it well.
What is your favorite t-shirt color?
Royal Blue would have to be my favourite t-shirt colour. Not too dark, not too light.
What has been your favorite vacation or travel experience?
Going on a road-trip to the town of Rotorua with my family. I love visiting that place, there’s so much to see and do!
Any shout outs?
A big shout out to my friends and family for being so supportive of the artwork that I do!
