Tell us about this design.
This design is based on Manny Horvitz, the Kosher Butcher out of Philadelphia. I love the vintage typography of the late 19th - earlier 20th century and thought, what better way to pay tribute to one of my favorite prohibition era characters on television.
Where are you from?
Hailing from the foothills of Tennessee, my brother and me have taken over the family business of running running bootleg shine through the Smoky’s all the way up the Appalachian Mountains
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
The last time I as arrested by the Bureau of Alcohol and Drug Enforcement, I knew I had to have something other than bootlegging to get me by. I was tired of living on the run, hiding out along the Appalachian trails so I started putting my artwork to good use.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Never give up. There is nothing wrong with designing your own white lightning labels for shine distribution, just don’t get caught bottling shine at the still.
What would be your dream job?
I’d love to go completely legit and be able to have a respectable career owning my own distillery. I’d like to quit bootlegging all together and legally distill real corn mash whiskey.
What is your favorite thing about the 1920s?
The best thing about the 20’s was the dress and the surge of the classic American prohibition era cocktail. These cocktails were invented by prohibition era mixologists trying to mask the flavors of rotgut gin and wiskey.
What would your ideal house be like?
It’d be great to have place right down town with a secret doorway leading you down to my own private speak easy lounge we’re I’d invite all to come down and imbibe!
Hamburgers vs. hotdogs: which would win the battle?
I try to eat neither, but hotdogs have animal face parts and all other types of unspeakable meats. I’d have to go with the lean tasty delights of a bison burger given the choice.
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
As a kid, I was big fan of Popeye. Popeye was such a bad ass, he could beat the crap out of anyone.
