Sooo happy to see some original art again! I'm so sick of doctor who and other references I dislike.

I think it's awesome to see a completely original concept, one that doesn't rely on fantasy / sci-fi / pop culture references. Don't get me wrong, I love me some Doctor Who shirts, but this is refreshing. And, the artist's advice is inspiring.

Though the art is cute, and well done, I don't see this one selling well. I am confused as to why we need a "Female Artist Week" in general. Is is really only men who get their designs printed? And if so is that not because they have the most compatible designs with the desired TeeFury fan base? I am kind of thrown off here.

I too am confused by the need for a female artist week. It implies that either 1. the Teefury selecters are biased towards males and need to make up for it, or 2. there is no bias, females just can't make the grade without a special event.

If you don't think this is condescending, imagine if it were 'black artist', 'Asian artist' or 'old person artist' week.

Or 3. We've previously themed weeks on things like movies, horror, animals, etc and thought this might be fun.

As has been stated a few times previously, there was no "special treatment" involved- each of these designs was selected before we came up with the idea for the week. But (for whatever reason) we do tend to receive more submissions from men than from women in general, so if this encourages more people to give t-shirt design a try that'd be pretty cool for everyone. More designs to choose from = more variety and better shirts, right? :)

And to chillymax and other "confused" individuals, the "need" for female artist week is likely based on the statistical proportion of artists submitting, not the quality of their work or the preference of selectors. Assume for example 1 in 7 submissions are from female artists- instead of potentially seeing 1 female artist a week, you get 7 for a week and hopefully inspire or encourage other female artists to up the ratio heading forward. Elementary school stuff buddy.

Love the tee (robots are sooo my thing!) but it just doesn't work on turquoise - why would the sky on a snowy day be turquoise????? The slate works so much better. Uh, what? That's a pretty odd statement.

And I don't know what everyone's complaining about. I love the turquoise shirts. It looks so much better than the slate. I feel a bit sorry for the men.

This is a great deign and a great start to she-fury week. Congrats to Rebekieb for an excellent job. As a musician though, I absolutely LOVE the woodland jazz band and would buy that in a heartbeat if teefury decided to do it. Am realy looking forward to the rest of this week.

I'm a 44 year old straight man comfortable in his life with who he is and I will totally wear that shirt. It's cute and has a robot, and I am pretty sure would get lots of "OMG cute shirt" comments! Plus it is fun and makes you feel warm and fuzzy. Dont judge a shirt design and label it as "girly", you are missing out on the fun in life that way. Life's too short to judge others or yourself. Just find what makes you happy and go with it people.

The shirt is adorable, but I can't help but wonder if focusing on female artists this week might have gotten a better start without a large-breasted cartoon artist as the symbol of "she-fury." It's not going to ruin my appreciation of some hopefully great designs throughout the week, though.

It snowed last night and is snowy today so guess that makes me feel it's even cuter than I might've done! WALL-E was a great film and character but the reference isn't so overt that the shirt's not pretty original.

very cute but it seems like, based on the side art and the artists interview, this isn't the best representation of her work. I would have liked to see something more complex as her first independent print so we can get more of an idea of what she's capable of. But it's hard to go wrong with a painfully adorable robot so what do I know. ^_^'

yea, I'm a 30 year old caucasian mother of 2 (not a Japanese school girl) and i'd wear it. I'm just so glad to see some shirts that aren't related to a movie/show that someone already did a related shirt to last week and the week before and the week before that... I especially like the animals playing music and the foxes with the tree :)

I so would have bought this is if the woman's t-shirt was in slate too - darn it! I already have the snowman dalek and can't bring myself to get another one in the same colour. I guess teefury has problems with supply or something?

This print was an important lesson that you can't overlook simple, cute drawings, though! I never thought this would be my first print, but I'm pleased to see how something so simple has made so many people (including me) so happy!

SHE-FURY: All this week, February 5th - 11th, we're featuring designs created by artists of the female persuasion. Women represent only a small fraction of our overall artist roster. We hope focusing attention on them will inspire other aspiring designers, male and female, to start creating and find success working as an independent artist.

Tell us a bit about this design.

This was originally a design I drew for a wintery holiday card for my friends and family. Since I live in the big city, my winter experiences run towards the cold, dirty and gray… somehow this lead me to think about robots, and how cute and warm the Disney character Wall-E was despite living in a post apocalyptic world… BAM. Adorable robot in the snow.

What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?

This is my first solo tee shirt print and I’m so excited! Here’s hoping that this is only the first of many more – keep a look out, I’m not done yet. You can find more of my art on my website: jackalope-art.com!

What do you absolutely not want them to find out?

I’m actually part of a secret alien intelligence unit here on earth to gather information regarding your tee shirt and sandwich preferences.

Name a few of your favorite things.

I enjoy the beautiful complexity of the world around me, the unbelievable vastness of space and time, turkey sandwiches and blue Col-Erase pencils. Also, bird watching.

What kind of art did you make as a kid?

I was lucky enough to have a lot of art exposure throughout my childhood, so I got to play with all sorts of mediums, but it all started with drawing. Both my mum and my granddad did a lot of drawing with me, and being an only child that’s what I filled my day up with. When I started keeping sketchbooks I was strictly a fantasy kid – all fairies and dragons.

What is your favorite thing about robots?

They’re shiny and they’ve got cool dance moves.

Sandwich vs. pizza: which would win the battle?

Sandwich would inevitably win the day – I mean, with a sandwich you can have a filling egg and cheese on a roll for breakfast, a light veggie sandwich for lunch, a monstrous pastrami sandwich for dinner FOLLOWED by an ice cream sandwich. Pizza, whether it be a triangle slice, square slice or pizza pocket is still just pizza.

Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.

I worked at a comic shop and while cleaning out the basement I found an old Akira tee shirt – I’ve never seen another one like it. It’s simple: black with a nice close up of Tetsuo and AKIRA in big letters underneath. Now, faded and threadbare, I wash it carefully and wear it as my “formal” tee shirt whenever I go to nerdy parties. It was an adventure finding it, and I feel ready for anything when I wear it.

Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.

Ooh, reading. Reading is the most interactive entertainment for my brains, and it can be done anywhere and anytime so long as one has a light source. Also, you don’t usually get mugged for reading a paperback on the subway. My favorite book is Ray Bradbury’s ‘Fahrenheit 451’, which is both beautiful and terrifying.

What inspires your work?

I’m really inspired by a combination of nature and urban environments – I love looking at the tiny worlds that arise out of a clump of moss or in rock pools then imagining how they can be combined. The artists M. C. Escher, Brian Froud and Moebius have all had a huge impact on my drawing since I was a kid.

Any shout outs?

Yes! To Anna-Maria Jung, amazing illustrator, brilliant collaborator and persistently awesome person. She showed me this whole crazy tee-shirt world and the projects we work on together are totally rad. Also, a shout out goes to turkey and swiss sandwiches for being so very, very delicious.
