I have been a Who fan since 2007 and it’s a pleasure for me to draw Who-themed shirts. A while ago I did a Firefly/Peanuts crossover and it went pretty well. I felt the same concept would work on a Who shirt.

I am from Graz in Austria, a really neat city which I recommend everyone to visit. It’s much cooler than Salzburg and Vienna, I swear! And it has a giant hill in the middle, which the devil has supposedly dropped there. And no, the tourism office doesn’t pay me to say that! I really love my city. Currently I am living in my second favorite city, New York.

Until recently, I wasn’t even sure what my style was. By now, I think I can say that my style usually has a strong narrative and combines cute creatures/monsters/characters in an extraordinary situation – my favorite thing to do is to present monsters in every-day situation, humor that also works well on shirts. Visually, I am strongly inspired by classic animation, comics and nerdy pop culture.

If you could collaborate with anyone else, who would you pick?
One of my favorite collaboration partners is an artist friend of mine, Rebekie Bennington (http://jackalope-art.com/jackalope/) – we complement each other perfectly when designing; her strengths are my weaknesses and vice versa. If I could choose another perfect collab partner, it would be Scott Campbell, an amazing illustrator whose work makes me happy and giggle.

I guess it has to be HP Lovecraft, the horror writer – does he count as a historical figure? He wrote my favorite kind of horror; the one with the unspeakable, weird, fishy, multi-dimensional monsters and fantastic alien worlds with wrong angles and indescribable architecture. I just admire how he changed the world of horror literature and many other forms of art as a whole. He might have had very questionable attitudes towards certain topics, but he was a brilliant writer.

If I wasn’t a designer (which is kind of my dream job) I would have maybe tried to become an actress, and I have acted in amateur plays, but I was always too insecure to become a professional. I was in a great play here in NY written by friends who really brought back my love for silly acting. I played 7 different extras in that show, 5 of whom died. Besides the actress thing, I would have probably tried to follow a romantic profession such as defender of the innocent, ninja or pirate lady. Time traveler would also be nice. Something where you get out into the sun more often.

While I would appreciate to see some of the super alien deep sea fish in real life, I definitely prefer the mountain because I sit inside all the time and really could use the sun (and if the mountain has a reasonable height, I might even make it without a heart attack).

I have seen Princess Bubblegum kick some serious ass, but Marceline is just…well, it’s Marceline. She has kick-ass written all over her. Bubblegum, on the other hand, has a castle of followers on her side while Marceline is a bit of a loner. Though, to be quite honest, Bubblegum’s followers are mostly cute pansies. However, if Bubblegum just eats Marceline’s fries, she might weaken the vampire queen enough to win the battle. I don’t know. Let’s ask them to make an episode about it.

It has to be black because it’s the most flattering color to wear and it’s the most fun color to work with for shirts.

I have seen so many places. I recently tried to count all major cities I have been in and I have come up to about 30 different ones. The top experience was New-Delhi in 2003, even though it was pure madness, exhausting, challenging and I had a viral stomach infection the whole time – but it just beat all the other experiences by being so different, so alien and it also helped me grow a little bit when I was 19 years old. The second most impressive experience was being in New York city for two weeks when I was 22 – back then, I was looking for an internship and I got one with Bill Plympton. It probably changed my career to the better. This year, I actually did my first REAL vacation ever – meaning, the relaxing sort, were one gets pampered all the time. It was a cruise to New England. Yes. I was the only person under 30 on the whole ship, haha.
