About the artist
Tell us about this design.
The mythology that features Samuel Colt's crusade against demons is one of my favorite aspects of the show. I imagined his expertise in creating occult weaponry being featured in a snake-oil salesman-esque ad. I referenced the bearded historical image of Colt instead of the actor Sam Hennings because of the slight resemblance to Bobby.
Where are you from?
How would you describe your style?
Adaptable. While my artwork normally veers cartoonish, I like to vary things in my design work.
If you could collaborate with anyone else, who would you pick?
Kazu Kibuishi. He's such a talented artist and storyteller who has a great collaborative spirit (as evidenced by the 'Flight' books). His 'Daisy Kutter' series and 'Amulet' graphic novels are truly spectacular.
What historical figure do you most admire?
"Mad" Ludwig II, king of Bavaria. His eccentricities created some of the most beautiful architecture and art in the world. He was a patron of Wagner and built the fairy tale castle Neuschwanstein which features some really bizarre little quirks like a dining room whose table was on a pulley system and would descend into the kitchen to be dressed before rising to meet the guests. The madness was all propaganda used to depose his reign and he died under mysterious circumstances, which fits nicely with his desire to remain an "eternal enigma."
If you weren't designing shirts, what would you be doing?
Playing games of the video, board, or card varieties.
Would you rather encounter a witch or a demon?
I've known a few witches in my life and they're all harmlessly nature-loving. I won't be burying anything at a crossroads any time soon, but if I encountered a demon it would have to be Lorne from 'Angel' -- other demon encounters seem to always go sideways.
Buffy vs. True Blood: which would win the battle?
Buffy could easily sneak up on the undead residents of Bon Temps and turn them to sludge. They're all too busy sexing to notice.
What is your favorite t-shirt color?
What has been your favorite vacation or travel experience?
Traveling through Scotland, we stopped for a night at a small bed & breakfast embedded in the steep crags and ridges. The grass was such a deep green, there was nothing around for miles, and the custard was amazing.
Any shout outs?
Just a polite whisper, thanks.
