Oh man this is awesome. Gonna show this to my husband and see if he gets the reference. It is to bad the painting Dexter is staring at couldn't be a real painting (though not with blood of course). Would love to have it covering most of a wall in my office.
There is nothing wrong with wearing a white t-shirt. The constant bitching anytime there's a shirt that's not black or brown or dark grey makes nooooo sense.
I do believe he does. Norman Rockwell did the Saturday Evening Post. This is Jackson Pollock.
OH YEA OF LITTLE FAITH!
I am an artist, sir - I know of whom I am influencing by! Such an image that was the basis for this image floating above us was done by none other than Norman Rockwell. It was, in fact, a reference to the rise of Abstract Expressionism as an art form, and the juxtaposition that would occur when museum goers, often members of the upper middle class who could only be described as having the most conservative of aesthetic values, were confronted with the wild abandonment of the contemporary avante-garde. Imagine, if you will, the sight of a well-to-do businessman so proper and restrained, attempting to grasp the the pure unfettered expression of a man like Pollock or De Kooning! The wonderful irony of it being that they are probably BOTH middle aged drunks!
Of course, the shirt which I have designed represents a true Connoisseur, one who intimately understands the process that is laid out before him. But there is even irony HERE, as Dexter himself is so restrained and methodical in his technique that he will never express himself so freely as those whom he is investigating! He, like the businessman in Rockwell's painting, has grudgingly accepted his place in society as a nine-to-fiver, permitting himself that artistic experience only in the rarefied setting of institutionalized critique that is the modern crime scene! Underpaid goons forbidding you to touch the "evidence". So called "forensic experts" telling us what it MEANS... Wait, what am I talking about?
Anyway, it is a Rockwell painting, I promise - just do a google search for "Rockwell The Connoisseur" and you'll find it ;)
I find the drip painting in Rockwell's image to be quite beautiful - the guy was total pro.
I was thinking Jackson Pollock too. Norman Rockwell painted people ice skating and singing Christmas carols, didn't he? I might buy this. Gonna sleep on it.

Great design on the shirt! I usually don't like white shirts, but this design needed it, I think. It adds to the design.
Korok side-art =
I have far too many T-shirts at this point (although I don't have a Dexter one yet, so I'm conflicted...) but I would buy that Korok shirt in a heartbeat.

I agree on both counts, good sir! The shirt is lovely, and Dexter is a fantastic show with a surprising, non-cliche plot and buckets of delicious irony! Plus, sometimes cute things! Like a baby dressed as a lion! I can't get enough!
Awesome!!! So excited!! It's a must buy because in the last two weeks I've finished going back and watched seasons 3 and 4 and this week I'm working on the 5th one! Great work man!
zelda cuties i want them !! and on a that color background shirt or orangish/pink would be great too something different i'm sick of the same boring colors that one would be amazing!!
I believe they are saying the gentleman in "the connoisseur" by rockwell is admiring a jackon pollock.
"Printed as a Saturday Evening Post cover for January 13, 1962, it depicts a well-dressed, even somewhat dandified gentleman in a gray suit as he stands in front of a Jackson Pollock-style drip painting...Is Rockwell making fun of abstract expressionism, or is it rather the gray-suited and somewhat meticulously composed connoisseur who is exposed to gentle ridicule? Has Rockwell painted a parody or an ambivalent homage to Pollock?" page 147 from 'Norman Rockwell: theunderside of innocence'
It goes on to say "The Connoisseur engages directly with a major figure in the history of painting-in this case, with a contemporary of Rockwell's. It directly juxtaposes Pollock's drip paintings (already more than a decade old) with the connoisseur and surrounding art gallery done in Rockwell's realist mode....In this, as in other ways, Rockwell's relation to Pollock is an invidious one." page 148 from 'Norman Rockwell: the underside of innocence'
once again amazing design and congrats on the print!
Thought Dexter sucked from the second season onwards so this tee's not for me, but love the bottom side art of the cute leaf...sprites?! Uber cute...tee please!
I get that it's supposed to be based on a painting but the big square of blood spatter looks a little too weird. I probably would have bought it if it was a nicer shape, better distributed or even a realistical looking blood spatter. As it is, I'll pass. Nice idea!
The only problem I have isn't a problem f design but of style. To me i'd prefer to see a frame on the art only because with the white it looks liike it just stops abruptly at the edge of the design. I usually don't complain about the color of the tee because It usually doesn't matter but the white just looks lke it has a red square in the middle from nowhere. Like I sad that's just an opinion, It is a great design and I would buy it if I had some money.
(If I didn't have t fix my car I would be poor anyway three shirts in a row!) Skyrim, mythbuster's now Dexter. Teefury you evil people wait tilll next week when I have mney! ;)
Great theme, but Dexter really should have had a knike behind his back to truly replicate the original "The Connoisseur" who had a hat and umbrella behind him...
I love the originality in the concept & design! Gonna pass for other reasons. Not sure enough folks would get it, and I'm only 3 seasons in...and not sure when I'll be back since the show apparently fell off a cliff. Again though, great work on your part!

why is there not an anti censorship t-shirt today? I must say I am disappointed, you'd think a site like teefury that makes it's money selling products that dance the line of copyright infringement would be in support of today's SOPA protest...

Amazing how many people still think he means Pollack when its been explained multiple times! Lol. Also, think about it....this design on anything but a white shirt would look silly. The shirt being white complements the jarring red of the blood splatter!
Great design! And pretty please print the Windwaker korocks sideart, and on that background color. Amazingly cute and so obscure it would make a great t-shirt.

no matter how true your statement is this design would look beast with a black background... NO DENYING IT!!
So much love, so much controversy! You folks have absolutely made my day. To those who dislike white shirts, I suppose I would recommend you eat lots of Italian food as you wear it - future stains could enhance the piece and add even more levels to an already twisting narrative. May you all have wonderful days ahead.
It's based on a Norman Rockwell painting - I always enjoyed how Dexter was sort of an aesthete when it came to his bloody business, and every crime scene was kind of like going to an art show for him. There's also the fact that Norman Rockwell's work is basically the antithesis of Dexter Morgan and I thought it made for an interesting design.
Where are you from?
I'm currently roaming about in Portland, OR via upstate New York.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
I'm super tough and devilishly handsome. I have many valuable skills. If the apocalypse happens, you definitely want me as a high-ranking member of your new society. I can fly and read minds. I am the best.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
The validity of prior claims.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Art - all kinds! Music, hiking, the woods, good conversation and a hot meal. Pop culture wise - The Tick, Donjon, Jean-Luc Picard and the Coen Brothers have all staked out fairly large territories within my subconscious mind.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
I would generally draw maps of all the islands that would one day make up my wondrous empire. Following that, lots of guys yelling in the margins of papers as an expression of pubescent rage.
What is your favorite thing about winter?
I love the snow and the temperature dynamics of a wintery day - that feeling of walking into a warm house from the chilly outside. One of my favorite feelings is working up a sweat so that you can take your coat off while outside. One of my favorite parts of an old job was shoveling the walks of a whole apartment complex. By the end you're down to a tee shirt and its twenty-five degrees.
Dinner vs. dessert: which would win the battle?
I tend to find the whole dinner vs. dessert argument to be something of a smokescreen against far more significant mealtime concerns. Besides, what is dessert? If I eat ice cream and then a salad, which one is dessert? If we can make cake into something healthy, does it remain dessert? How can we truly quantify something that seems to me to be within the eye of the beholder? I try not to live my life by false binaries.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
My gal got me a tee shirt with a couple detectives on the front investigating a crime scene. The crook, along with his bags of money, is printed on the inside of the shirt, which I adore. It's starting to fade a little but I like to think it'll be the robber that much harder to catch!
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
Reading holds a special place in my heart. Not only does it encompass comic books, which are probably my all-time favorite medium, but I think you just can't beat it when it comes to density of information. My favorite books of recent memory are probably 'Fortress of Solitude' by Johnathan Lethem and the Dungeon Series by Lewis Trondheim. There are a million great things out there - it's really hard to pick just one!
What inspires your work?
Everything! Most of all, I like the idea of giving things a life beyond what is immediately presented, or showing something in a different tone. Often times pop culture adheres to a limited palette of emotion in order to appeal to the most amount of people. It's fun to take something badass and reinvent it as awkward, or take something saccharine and give it a dark edge. Beyond that, it's about finding a process that I enjoy and letting it take me where it may.
Any shout outs?
Big time thank yous to Jen, Samala, Megan, Eric, Ashley, Matt, and my family - and to anyone who posed for reference photos over all these years. Your patience is commendable!
