About the artist
Tell us about this design.
The idea came to me back in ’06 not long after my mum had first introduced me to the show. I was sitting in a particularly boring (and cold) maths class, and doodled a snowman Dalek to pass the time. The idea has always stuck in my head. The Dalek form just seems so ideal to be made into a snow creature!
Where are you from?
The wonderful land of New Zealand!
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
I’ve always enjoyed illustration, and I’m also taking graphic design at university, so I had all the basic knowledge and programs to do the design work. A mind full of ideas and a couple of cups of coffee later and I was designing t-shirts!
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Keep doing what you love and don’t let anyone drag you down or get in your way on the road to becoming a designer.
What would be your dream job?
Working on the graphic design department of a film company like Weta Workshop or for a game designing company would be pretty awesome.
What is your favorite thing about aliens?
The fact that their appearances aren’t restricted by anything. An alien could be, or look like practically anything because there’s nothing to say what they should or shouldn’t look like.
What would your ideal house be like?
I would love to live in a large cottage with a massive garden of fountains, a hedge maze and statues. That’d be absolutely wonderful.
Illustration vs. photography: which would win the battle?
Ooh, that’s a tough one because I’m a photographer and an illustrator. I’m going to have to choose illustration though, there’s only so much you can do with photography, but with illustration, the ideas are limitless!
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
I was a big fan of cartoons as a kiddie, and I still am, they’re something I’ve never stopped loving. Dragon Ball Z, Captain Planet and The Wild Thornberry’s were some of my childhood favourites.
What are a few of your favorite websites?
Deviantart, youtube, teefury and any websites to do with sci-fi / geekery in general are my sites of choice.
Any shout outs?
Thank you teefury for making my SnowLek design come to life!
