I'm going to go out on a limb and say dalek, predator, cylon, Vader, and the xenomorph queen. Its a cool idea, i just I wish they were more detailed than just a silhouette.

On the plus side, the King is still the tallest piece, and the Queen is to the King's left, as it should be.

You konw, they fixed the goof on the Fezzik shirt a while back, it wouldnt take much to switch the colors of the squares around before printing I wouldnt think, it is just black and white after all...

Printing one shirt a day is what lets us 1) print a lot of awesome designs and 2) sell them at a low price :) If there's a past shirt that you've missed, try either contacting the artist or asking around in the forums to see if someone will trade.

Since most everything is geeky in a discussion with other geeks, my one geek comment on the shirt: The Queen isn't on her own color. Other than that, brilliant!

I think you guys are focusing on the order of the pieces and the silhouette too much instead of the artist's description. The Emperor is the King and the Alien is the Queen. Also, no Vader on this shirt. This is spiffy.

Definitely have to sleep on this one. I like it (seen similar things elsewhere with other characters), but not really a Battlestar fan (although the Cylons deserve a place here), and until I read the write up, I thought the Emperor was Darth Vader. Those are minor complaints though, and after I get up in the morning, I may be getting this one. My one question though, who are the pawns?

The problem being pointed out is that - on a chessboard, at the start of play - the queen is on the square of her own color. The little lines representing the squares under the pieces of this design are such that the black piece resting on the black square [line] happens to be the Emperor. Therefore, regardless of what the description says, with chess rules, that piece would be assumed by any viewer of the shirt to be the queen. Therefore, as far as the SHIRT goes: what is depicted is that the Emperor is the Queen, and the Queen Alien is the King.

An error that - as someone else pointed out - COULD be taken care of by reversing the lines underneath the pieces during the printing of the shirts (with artist approval, I presume). However, I doubt it will.

The difficulty I have with it is that the silhouettes aren't distinct enough for anything but the Alien Queen and the Daleks. The rest have to be guessed at. (The only reason, without reading the artist's description, that I suspected the Cylons were Cylons was from the V shaped eye area.)

I'm on the fence about this shirt because, while I admire the detail on and immediately get 99% of the pieces, the Emperor is sort of blobby and hard to figure out. It might have worked better if Darth Vader was there instead. Then there's the whole "Queen on color" issue to boot. I'll have to mull this one over because it's so cool otherwise.

A for effort tho' - and I'm not saying that sarcastically for once.

I love how much thought has gone into this. I enjoy being able to understand why what went where, but ironically, it seems, by what people are saying, that not enough thought went into where the pieces were placed. :S

Well in consideration of the other pieces on the board I would hope for the pawns to either be stormtroopers or red shirts.

I really love this but I can't un-see the Emperor as the Queen! Seems like kind-of a huge oversight. It's unlikely that whoever sees the shirt would get every reference/know enough about chess to see the mistake, but...We see it, dangit! GENIUS design otherwise.

I'm really digging on that Clockwork Orange side art.

The Daleks and Cylons were to only ones I got right away, I honestly thought the two middle were Vader and Baradur... But to be fair I'm a Lord of the Rings nut, and Vader is just more instant recognization than generic hooded guy(Which the emperor is in silohuette.

I think the Predator would have worked better facin forward the fangs would hav been more visible and gotten seen quicker.

The wrong placement I didn't notice but now that it's been said I can't unsee it.

This will be a pass for me, It's a great concept And I think you did very well, I think you just picked a couple tough pieces to silohuette.

So it seems I've been playing Chess wrong all these years, I always thought it was the King that goes on the board colour of the piece... I've emailed TeeFury ammended artwork to see if they can correct the design before it goes to print. Hopefully it shouldn't be a problem... but I can certainly understand why it's putting alot of you guys off the design.

I decided to go for the Emperor instead of Vader, because ultimately, I reckon, he is the real villain of Star Wars, and also he seemed like a better fit for the slow moving king, that, when i'm playing, keeps out the road of most of the battles... Plus, I thought it'd be a nice change from always having Vader...

The Predator was a tough one, but most people recognised what it was in the context of the design, I gave it the side on profile so it looked more like the traditional view of the side on view of the Knight.

Anyway, thanks again for the views and comments, they are all very much appreciated.

All good points; sadly I will have to pass as well. It's a bit odd. Personally I feel they should have been switched. Sweet idea though!

Cool idea and I love chess shirts. This reminds me of a recent shirt where Batman was the black side knight (ie, Dark Knight hehehe). But what kills this shirt for me was a) the indistinct Predator figures, b) the choice of the Emperor for King (Darth would have been more recognizable), c) the color mix up with the queen, and d) while the queen alien was a great choice, the king piece needed to be taller.

Man are you guys anal about a shirt! The Dukes AT-AT will have $10 patiently waiting.

I had to stare at the knight for a downright embarrassing amount of time before I realized it was a profile of the predator. In my defense, it's the only piece that's done in profile.

Sadly I'm going to pass. I really cannot get over the fact that the queen is on the wrong tile. Which is sad because unlike some others the understated design is the thing I liked most about the shirt. The lack of detail is completely appropriate for chess pieces.

Exactly this, if the artist simply fixes the seemingly inconsequential black and white spaces below to match queen to her color, I would buy this.

Speaking of lighten up...sorry for giving an opinion! In fairness, I like the idea of the shirt (and I LOVE most of the side art), just not right for me.

I want to make it clear that I really like the premise of this shirt.

But it's not silly to expect that a geek tshirt about geek culture icons and a geek game should get the facts right.

I couldn't walk around in a shirt where the Alien Queen was standing in the King position, and the Emperor was in the Queen position. Maybe that's not a big deal to you--I guess you don't play chess.

I'm glad that the artist responded, and maybe teefury will make the shirt available again with corrected art.

For the Light side maybe I was thinking Stormtroopers for the Dark side....Pun intended.

They also didn't really fix the problem because the pieces are in the same place and the colors underneath have just been changed..... that's not fixing it that's making it look like there's either a problem with the board or the person setting it up didn't know how to. I was ok with the tiny mistake and bought it anyway but now that I've seen how they *fixed* it I'm giving serious thought to sending it back :-(

Doesn't the queen go on her own colour? So the white queen on white, black queen is on black on the same row as her on the opposite side of the board. So this is not erroneous, the Alien Queen is just representing white in this lineup.

It's possible that these are only black pieces because they are silhouettes rather than this being a mistake. Maybe they're silver? Ok...maybe that's tenuous :)
