I hope you guys like this! I have tons more nouveau style stuff on my website (http://www.meganlara.com) and facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/mLARAart). Thanks for looking!!
Incredible! I still can't believe that you somehow managed to make a zombie look graceful while still looking like a zombie. It's just a feat that is a wonder to behold.
I know I already wrote a comment on here today, so this is just greedy, but HOLY COW GONZO AS DR. GONZO--that is so incredibly brilliant that I can't even believe that it hasn't been done before; I am awe struck. That would make one heck of a nice Christmas present for a certain friend I have...
That Hunter S. Thompson Muppet shirt needs to show up on this site as soon as possible. I love the art nouveau style, you're really good at it, but the zombie mash up doesn't sit quite right with me, not sure why.
Wow. Don't rightly know whether to love or hate the color scheme, but I think either reaction would be correct! In any case, if I could afford it, I would buy it. Really good design either way! :D Good luck and pancakes!
Would love both the Gonzo and Sparrow/Nightingale shirts. Already loving (and wearing constantly) my Greendale shirt (though mine is in beige). Also really like this design!
This is fourth or fifth "Art Nouveau" styled pop icon I've seen on teefury. I'm a HUGE fan of the Art Nouveau movement, but while I love the concept of juxtaposing modern day pop icons into this style, the execution of the style is starting to lack. Art Nouveau is more than just a thick contour line set against a pattern of circles and symetry. They are beginning to miss the movement and the composition that is so pertinent to the style. Alphonse Mucha, the definitive master of this style used unique and enchanting poses to create his Art Nouveu designs. The posing in these pieces has become flat. The movement and draping of the clothing is key as well as the structure and movement of the hair. The Princess Leia piece is by far the best.
I am sorry for the long windedness of my comment, I mean it only as constructive criticism. I think the artist has stumbled upon a REALLY amazing concept, but the images need to be pushed further.
Gotta say, I LOVE this artist's work. I've been following for quite some time now. Just finished watching the walking dead and it was just an obvious choice that I HAD to get this shirt :)
Keep up the fantastic work Megan Lara!... actually if you DO keep this up i'm going to be broke! :) but happily clothed

Yo dawg, Alphonse Mucha is the bees knees, but keep in mind that there were many interpretations of the Art Nouveau style (re: the Glasgow Four)

YES!! I've had my eye on this design for WEEKS!! I love your style and one of these days I'll break down and get the Starbuck shirt. You have done some amazing Mucha styled versions of the Marvel superheroines/villans, are you planning on doing any DC? **cough Wonder Woman? **cough**
Yo dawg, Alphonse Mucha is the bees knees, but keep in mind that there were many interpretations of the Art Nouveau style (re: the Glasgow Four)
Absolutely! Though it is obvious to me in these pieces that the influence for them is heavily Mucha as opposed to other incarnations of Nouveau. I appreciate the different incarnations of Nouveau but this, to me, isn't a new incarnation ( See the work of John Baizley ) as much as it is a Mucha influenced piece using pop culture icons as the models. I feel that the artist has chosen two or three characteristics ( the thick contour, negative space used in the separation of the hair, and the circle within a circle pattern) and neglected more of the base principles of what Nouveau is ( the "whip", movement, dynamic poses, fluidity and rhythm of characters and design, the balancing of negative space etc. ). Again, I think it's a great concept, and the Leia piece definitely demonstrates the artists knowledge of what it should be... but to be frank, the last few designs have seemed lazy.
The Leia piece (and the Labyrinth one, actually) are mine, not Megan's. And to call her work lazy is INSANE. The amount of thought and work that goes into these designs is incredible.
Happy hunting Megan, many PANCAKES to you...beautiful work as usual!

I used the term lazy to emphasize my original statement... the work could be pushed further.
I didn't realize the two more successful Art Nouveau pieces were yours, bravo.
Another attractive Mucha-inspired design. Unfortunately, that's all it is - another. Mucha has been overdone by far at this point.
I think the art is good looking, and I'm sure it will sell.
But what about some Jan Toorop? What about a Teefury-istic interpretation of Lalique or Tiffany? Paul Berthon?! There are so many possibilities in Nouveau and yet all we're seeing are the same concepts used in a portion of Mucha's works. It's stifling an an insult to the history of the Nouveau movement.
Don't get all defensive, I SAID the art was nice because I do think it is. But that doesn't change my other opinions either.

people are entitled to their opinions and to post those opinions here. They may be "$10 tee shirts" but they are posted here as works of art for sale... essentially an art exhibit. My comments may not be as positive or simple as the ever present "instabuy" but I for one like seeing that people are having an actual conversation about this piece. If you can't contribute to the conversation then don't. Anyone who's gone to art school or had an opening or is an artist in any sense knows that critique is an essential and inevitable part of creating, it pushes us to go further, to reexamine and see our work from another perspective.

Awesome design today. Seriously good quality. I'm still into zombies but i have waaay too many shirts on order and waaay too little monies in the bank account.
woah, the guy in the top twitter pic looks like terry from true blood (or zach from gilmore girls if that is your fandom).
PLEASE!!!! "OMAR COMIN"...........PLLLLEEEEAAAASE, Haven't seen anything from The Wire yet, it's the greatest show ever, and Omar is one of the best characters ever. Do it.

"Lazy" isn't constructive at all. With "critiques" like that, can you honestly wonder why someone might be put on the defensive?
Uh... there's more to Art Nouveau than this whole "full frontal portrait of woman with circle filled with relevant symbols behind her" formula. Yeah, Mucha was awesome, but he did way more than just this, and not to mention all the other artists out there. Now if we got something in the style of Beardsley, THAT would be cool. And actually clever. Well, not so much now because I just suggested it.
Oh and if you all are going to write me off as another whiner that can't draw, I pay my bills by drawing, thank you. You can always tell a non-artist by how they handle criticism. Figuring out what does and doesn't work in others' art is half of making art yourself. People that don't critique or can't see it as anything but negative nancying never get past the amateur stage themselves.
I don't do the zombie thing so unfortunately, I will have to pass. That being said, I LOVE THIS ARTIST. PLEASE feature more of her stuff, Teefury. The Daisy (or is that Princess Peach?) side art would be stunning on a tee and I would snap it up. I would also LOVE to see this artist draw some female Batman villains like Catwoman, Poison Ivy. X-Men's Emma Frost would be excellent too~!
Awesome design. Just a shame that TeeFury shirts aren't up to my standards in regards to how they fit. I have several TF shirts that I have taken chances on that I never wear because the fit like squares (after one wash) and have huge collars because they are printed on mid-grade American Apparel shirts. smuuuuuurf shame.
xAdamDAP said: Is the zombie craze over yet? I say Frankenstein should be the next "cool monster" ............
: Frankenstein wasn't the monster, he was the creator. Frankenstein's monster is the green dude with bolts in his head.
But really, the doctor himself was a bit of a monster for re-animating flesh. I think that might be part of the irony of calling the hapless, shambling mound of flesh a "monster"...

I agree!
I bought the Princess Leia shirt because of the execution being done so well. I recognized the art style and the original print that it was fashioned after before noticing that Leia was in the center, and all the other small SW details.
It would be great to see a mucha zombie style shirt like this, http://www.postercheckout.com/PictureFull.asp?PrintID=515389&source=clix
It already has the greens to start you off, a different posture, and still gives you the border to play with.
Pretty!! Not a buy, unfortunately. Short on cash. But I am a fan of the Noveau style. I remember plenty of work you've had featured on here and other sites.
Wow, some of the comments here today..............
We get a non doctor who/star wars etc shirt that looks like someone actually put more then a afternoon of effort into it and the wannabee art critics come swooping in.
News flash, your on a teeshirt site.......you can use large words and wax poetic out of your art appreciation 101 text book to make yourself feel smarter but when it comes down to it your attacking someones design on a shirt website........
You don't always get what you want on teefury but you don't have to be a self rightous ass about it.
Haters gonna hate:)
I love the shirt btw..........zombies never go out of style.
honestly, i hardly ever see shirts that i LOVE instantly on teefury, even tho i like most of them, but i ordered TWO of these instantly! I DIG HOT ZOMBIE CHICKS!!!
even though I do think this whole art nouveau angle (esp. with Mucha's rather specific stlye) has been overplayed by now, nothing could possibly touch Megan's tee designs. stunning stuff as usual ... very well done
I'm so tempted to get this shirt, cause I find it oddly pretty. Plus I really like Art Nouveau, but I'm just not sure. I'll think about it for a bit. But either way... congrats on the print!!!
PS: I would SO buy the Ms.Piggy side art... would have been PERFECT for The Muppets movie coming out this Wednesday. ;D
I love Megan's stuff. I own her Phoenix design, ordered the women of Firefly prints for a friend, and have a few of her shirts on my Christmas list. This one is not my favorite, although I dig the subtle shotguns framing the side. The "is it a nipple or is it a bloodsplotch?" is kinda a downside as far as I'm concerned. Which is to say, "Megan's stuff is awesome, but I don't understand the bile and hate for people who are expressing an opinion other than 'Me want shirt!' I can't draw for smurf, I don't have an art degree, but that doesn't mean I can't have an intelligent opinion about what I do or do not like about a particular design. Doesn't mean I'm right, but that's beauty of art, right? It's in the eye of the beholder.
BTW, Megan, if you are reading this, seriously, you rule, and I do not have enough money to buy all your stuff.
This design reminds me of the tragic tale of Elizabeth Siddal* and her husband Dante Gabriel Rossetti (*see wikipedia). Sorry if that's too art nerdy for the TeeFury front page. Or possibly too emo. Take your pick.
Rock on. First I've seen or heard of this site (no, seriously) from a link showing off this art. IMMEDIATELY purchased it. So very cool. I think I've found a new daily stop!

Exactly!
I pay my bills by making art as well. I'm glad to see that someone else understands that my intentions were not to "belittle" but meant as one artist speaking to another. As I said before, critiques are essential to the growth of an artist, and if you can't handle criticism then you won't get far, or at best you'll become an artist whose work never grows.

I'm not "hating" at all. News Flash for you my friend, this may just be a t-shirt site to you, but to the artists it means a lot more, this is part of where the art world is headed, and that means other artists are going to have things to say about it. I don't feel like making an educated comment or starting a conversation about artwork when art is what you do is "self righteous" or merely "waxing poetic". If all an artist wants is for people to pat them on the back and tell them how amazing they are all the time, then they should probably save their work for their mother's refrigerator.
The Portal design is at Level Up Studios for 20 bucks. I don't know precisely how these things work, but I'm guessing this means we might not see the Portal design on Tee-fury.
brittanyp said: Absolutely love these designs. Wish the Portal one would get printed sometime soon!
I really wish Teefury would add a feature to allow fans to add a "tip" for the artist during checkout. With a great design like this, I'd gladly add a few dollars if I knew it would go to the artist.
nice original design, and i agree the "omar comin" side art is a must. also, to all u "I'm sick of zombie stuff " winers, maybe u would prefer another dr. who gives a sh*t shirt.

If I want to criticise artistic movements and the interpretation/execution of...I'll go to an art exhibition.
It's a $10 teeshirt site, people. Enjoy the art or don't. But it's not up to you to tell someone that they're doing it wrong.

OH MAN!
I didn't even see that design, until I read your comment.
That shirt is a MUST HAVE for any fans of "The Wire".
I love today's shirt as well~
but that "Omar Comin' " shirt would be an insta-buy. ♥

people are entitled to their opinions and to post those opinions here.

I don't get it either. Does it have something to do with a game er movie er show er something? or is it just some random zombie thing. This is why I need the interview sometimes. xD

"Lazy" isn't constructive at all. With "critiques" like that, can you honestly wonder why someone might be put on the defensive?

But really, the doctor himself was a bit of a monster for re-animating flesh. I think that might be part of the irony of calling the hapless, shambling mound of flesh a "monster"...

This design reminds me of the tragic tale of Elizabeth Siddal* and her husband Dante Gabriel Rossetti (*see wikipedia). Sorry if that's too art nerdy for the TeeFury front page. Or possibly too emo. Take your pick.

I pay my bills by making art as well. I'm glad to see that someone else understands that my intentions were not to "belittle" but meant as one artist speaking to another. As I said before, critiques are essential to the growth of an artist, and if you can't handle criticism then you won't get far, or at best you'll become an artist whose work never grows.
thank you.
bodhilightsaid 26 weeks ago

I'm not "hating" at all. News Flash for you my friend, this may just be a t-shirt site to you, but to the artists it means a lot more, this is part of where the art world is headed, and that means other artists are going to have things to say about it. I don't feel like making an educated comment or starting a conversation about artwork when art is what you do is "self righteous" or merely "waxing poetic". If all an artist wants is for people to pat them on the back and tell them how amazing they are all the time, then they should probably save their work for their mother's refrigerator.
