Tell us about this design.
It’s a tribute to one of our favorite films “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.” Everything about it is simply amazing. The plot is effortlessly complex and it just gets better with each viewing. Charlie Kaufman’s script, Michel Gondry’s direction, Jon Brion’s score; it’s all just so damned wonderful! Also, it’s one of the most romantic movies of all-time and we’re a newlywed, newly-formed design duo.
Where are you from?
Her: I was born in tropical Dominican Republic (land of plantains & major league baseball players). At age four, I moved with my family to Sleepy Hollow, NY (land of the Headless Horseman). Then we moved to Providence, RI (land of Peter Griffin) and then to south Florida (land of sunshine & humidity). I went to college in Boston, MA (land of revolutionary historical sites) and finally moved to NYC (land of assholes) 6 years ago.
Him: (I don’t think you can say “assholes” on the internet.) I was born in sunny Los Angeles. I grew up under the grey skies of the Pacific Northwest in a small town renown for strawberries and casino gambling. I’ve lived in NYC for a while now.
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
We started by doing designs on the sides of packages that we were mailing to our friends. Since we were avid TeeFury customers we thought we’d give it a try.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Don’t make something you think other people will like, make something you think is amazing. And if you think it’s that good, someone else is bound to agree.
What would be your dream job?
Her: A rich widow with a terrible secret (like Janet Snakehole)
Him: A swashbuckling archaeologist (and my wife’s answer worries me)
What is your favorite thing about history?
Her: The realization that people have always been the same as now, except they were probably smarter in history times. Also, I am slightly obsessed with cavemen.
Him: The ability to look back at the mistakes other people have made and feel superior while you make the exact same mistakes yourself. And the old-timey outfits.
What would your ideal house be like?
Her: Treehouse in the middle of the Redwood Forest or a castle on my own private island.
Him: One of those penthouse apartments in Manhattan where it’s like a house on the top of a building with a small yard and trees (and a hot tub).
Old vs. new: which would win the battle?
Her: Old. Old things have more character.
Him: Old, because things back then were built to last
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Her: Cartoons—my favorites in chronological order: He-Man, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Animaniacs.
Him: Movies—Raiders of the Lost Ark changed my young life. I was the only 10-year-old in my neighborhood with a 6-foot long leather bullwhip.
