I bought the Dexter design and it's quickly become my favorite shirt. Now a shirt about one of my more favorite childhood movies? Hard to not buy this one too.
Great job by this artist. Love the De Niro sideart too.
Bagelofdeath said: This is remarkably similar to the design by Faniseto that was featured on another site.
Which came first?
As we noted on Facebook, this design has been planned for over a month.
I think this one came first, but it doesn't really matter- the pun is natural enough that it makes sense several people might think of it :)
I love this design, more than the design that was posted on the other site earlier this month (11/1). Though something seems off; his other work — the Dexter sideart — seems quite familiar to yet another piece from another site. Something about this occurring again doesn't feel kosher.

No, I'm talking about about WinterArtwork's "Horror Toon 2" from another site. When Lapuss' Dexter piece went up over six months ago, I and others made the same comment then as well.
Sorry about the other Kremlins shirt on another site folks.
As Jimiyo already said it, mine has been approved for months. Let's just say it's bad luck. Faniseto did a nice job on his design.
Kremlins/Gremlins is not the idea of the century, Kremlin is the first thing that comes up in your mind when you think about the word Gremlin. I just wanted to have fun by making a Stripe tee design, that's all :)
About ideas and designs that look similar, of course they do...
When you have an idea, you can be sure a thousand people had the same before and will have the same idea after you. You can't know each and every design on the web, we all watch the same movies, same tv shows, have the same artistic sense and feeling.

I don't see the similarity between "Horror Toon 2" and the Dex shirt. One is about Dexter, and the other looks like Jason, with an axe. And a tattoo on his arm. I don't mean to be rude, but how exactly are the two similar?

While the characters themselves are very much different, both designs feature or alludes to a protagonist that kills people. A lot. The respective works utilize a retro black and white style of 1930's-40's animation and each feature the character within the "Merry Melodies" like circle.
Lapuss — if you get a chance to read this — As I said in my first comment on here, I love this design. I too am a designer and if you would like to ever critique my work, I wholeheartedly welcome it. It's only fair since I've critiqued your work so much within the past hour.
Thom2maro> There's no prob, really. It's part of the game ;)
To speak about my Dextoon design, the reflexion was to put a bloody killer in a situation that's usually cute and "nice". So Merry Melodies just came up naturally. (in fact I have to admit I drew Dextoon's mouth watching an old Mickey Mouse cartoon). Dextoon was my first tee design, so I didn't know about Winterartwork designs (which I love by the way) I usually work as a cartoonist and comics writer in Europe. Now that I know much more about tee websites, I can see what has been done already, or not. Just had bad luck about that Kremlins design...
I definitely like this Kremlins design better than the one teefurycopy had last week, but I also tend to prefer my communist parody shirts on red, lol. Hmmmmm.
Lapuss - I tried to go to your site but it seems to just be a front for webmail. Since the sideart suggests you want people to go there i'm guessing you haven't noticed?
Loving the thundercat sideart. Anything thundercats is instabuy for me.
Here's one from June 2011...And there's at least 20 others sites with that idea developped...So before talking about copy, be sure you're the first doing it. Pretty bad attitude from a designer, I hate that...

Hi, I'm wetmogwai, Gremlins superfan. If this is really Faniseto, bad form on your post after Lapuss was totally respectful of your design. Artists should respect one another's work. Saying someone else's is a "bad copy" of something you did earlier this year, which involves a pun that's most likely been used for the last 25+ years, makes you look ridiculously rude and ignorant.
If this isn't really Fansieto, the joke's stupid, and disrespectful to both artists.
Gah, total lameness with posting links! But anyway, is this really the forum to talk about copying? Look at all the Dr Who designs, with all the smurf arguments that this design is a copy, what does it make of all the who-shirts with a pun?
you know i might have bought this if it didn't say kremlins on it. why did you have to add the s???? i loved the old cartoon from loony toons about the gremlins from the Kremlin B^(

"Original MashedPotato" is kind of an oxymoron... and just because it's been done before doesn't mean someone else can't come up with the idea on their own and do it, too.
Anyway...
Love this design! I was never into the Gremlin thing, sadly, so I won't be picking it up, but it's excellently done! LOVE the colors!

The site's about original artwork - not original puns. When Van Gogh painted those sunflowers in a vase, people weren't all "painted flowers again?!?" (OK, maybe some were) - they were looking at the art.
Wordplay runs rampant on this site and many like that, but when it comes down to it, it's really about the unknown artists and their original art here. Look at the art, people!
This advise is the gift of the mogwai (hey, guess what - I didn't come up with that pun, either).
Also, now that I have read all of the comments. WOW! Just stop people. Lapuss, this DESIGN is original regardless of the content. As somebody mentioned above the actual pun has been in use since WWII.
Just check the episode from Looney Toons yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fa0aBvtTgE8
"Gremlins from the Kremlin". If that link doesn't appear just type in "Russian Rhapsody Hitler Cartoon" into youtube.
So no, the PUN is not original but the DESIGN is 100% original and this is why I purchased it. So, thank you Lapuss for an excellent t-shirt. ;)
As for Faniseto, wow, if that was the real Faniseto...terrible etiquette. I would never purchase a Faniseto shirt if that is how he acts. Somebody needs to contact him to find out if that was posted by a troll or the real Faniseto.
I will proudly wear this shirt during the holidays as I recount to my kids about how their grandpa went missing and there was a strange smell from the chimney....
wow, this is a special design, lots of detailed goodness jammed in there, the design is also balanced beautifully and the colour palette is smooth as silk - TOPS!!!
Man, all this hooplah about which design came first! Does it really matter? I mean, the pun is so obvious, a thousand people have probably done it. What really matters is the way one interprets the pun into his or her own original design. While both designs are nice, I happen to prefer yours over the other in question. I think it illustrates the pun in a more effective way. In your design, the focus is on Stripe, a "Gremlin" which , of course, is a play on "Kremlin". I find that adding Gizmo, a "Mogwai" (although I know you have him in here, subtly) into the design isn't really a cohesive element when you think about the play on words. That being said, I love the lines, the colors, and the overall design of this tee. You did a great job of really making this hackneyed pun clever. Congrats on the print, Lapuss!

I wish you wouldn't feel that way. Be proud of your design. It looks incredible! A lot of people really enjoy your work here so please don't feel discouraged. Haters gonna hate.
Hey, I love the communist/propaganda look to the shirt. Do you think that you could do a more traditional looking one? Good luck on your designs man. Im so envious!
A word from TeeFury: Whatever you do, don't feed Russia after midnight!
Where are you from? Belgium, I didn't move since my last tee.
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
I'm a comics writer here in Europe, but I'm also a graphic designer so when I have time, I like to draw for my pleasure. My very first t-shirt design was for a Taito Space Invaders Contest. I won the first price with it. It was a really good experience and I decided to keep going on.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Don't try to do something that could be a best seller, the very first thing to do is have a great time on designing the tee.
What would be your dream job?
Well, I'm actually doing my dream job, I always wanted to draw as far as I remember. Another dream job would be movie writer.
What is your favorite thing about Russia?
Ivan Drago. Or maybe Schwarzy in Red Heat!
What would your ideal house be like?
Maybe Tony Soprano's house. Or Tony Montana's house. Well in fact, any mafia leader's house would be perfect.
Motorcycles vs. bicycles: which would win the battle?
If you throw a bike on a bicycle, I guess the bike would win. Is that something normal people think about all day long, doing battles between bikes et bicycles?
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
As a kid I'd say cartoons. My favourite one was Cobra Space Adventure, which is also a manga by the way. That was not really a cartoon in fact, it was more like an animated serie.
What are a few of your favorite websites?
Teefury of course, love Facebook too, Youtube, Dailymotion, and any geek website to waste time on it...
Any shout outs?
Could you tell Starbucks and Burger King to implant some stores here in Belgium ?
