As we noted on Facebook, this design has been planned for over a month.

I think this one came first, but it doesn't really matter- the pun is natural enough that it makes sense several people might think of it :)

The pun was made as early as World War II as Loony Tunes had a short on "Gremlins from the Kremlin" thwarting the teddybears.

I bought the Dexter design and it's quickly become my favorite shirt. Now a shirt about one of my more favorite childhood movies? Hard to not buy this one too.

I love this design, more than the design that was posted on the other site earlier this month (11/1). Though something seems off; his other work — the Dexter sideart — seems quite familiar to yet another piece from another site. Something about this occurring again doesn't feel kosher.

The other one was better, if nothing else a red shirt is a must.

Not that similar. Just uses the same pun - not an original pun anyway. The design itself is different.

No, I'm talking about about WinterArtwork's "Horror Toon 2" from another site. When Lapuss' Dexter piece went up over six months ago, I and others made the same comment then as well.

As Jimiyo already said it, mine has been approved for months. Let's just say it's bad luck. Faniseto did a nice job on his design.

Kremlins/Gremlins is not the idea of the century, Kremlin is the first thing that comes up in your mind when you think about the word Gremlin. I just wanted to have fun by making a Stripe tee design, that's all :)

About ideas and designs that look similar, of course they do...
When you have an idea, you can be sure a thousand people had the same before and will have the same idea after you. You can't know each and every design on the web, we all watch the same movies, same tv shows, have the same artistic sense and feeling.

This is a pretty brilliant design.

While the characters themselves are very much different, both designs feature or alludes to a protagonist that kills people. A lot. The respective works utilize a retro black and white style of 1930's-40's animation and each feature the character within the "Merry Melodies" like circle.

Lapuss — if you get a chance to read this — As I said in my first comment on here, I love this design. I too am a designer and if you would like to ever critique my work, I wholeheartedly welcome it. It's only fair since I've critiqued your work so much within the past hour.

To speak about my Dextoon design, the reflexion was to put a bloody killer in a situation that's usually cute and "nice". So Merry Melodies just came up naturally. (in fact I have to admit I drew Dextoon's mouth watching an old Mickey Mouse cartoon). Dextoon was my first tee design, so I didn't know about Winterartwork designs (which I love by the way) I usually work as a cartoonist and comics writer in Europe. Now that I know much more about tee websites, I can see what has been done already, or not. Just had bad luck about that Kremlins design...

Hi, I'm wetmogwai, Gremlins superfan. If this is really Faniseto, bad form on your post after Lapuss was totally respectful of your design. Artists should respect one another's work. "Original MashedPotato" is kind of an oxymoron... and just because it's been done before doesn't mean someone else can't come up with the idea on their own and do it, too.

The site's about original artwork - not original puns. When Van Gogh painted those sunflowers in a vase, people weren't all "painted flowers again?!?" (OK, maybe some were) - they were looking at the art.

Wordplay runs rampant on this site and many like that, but when it comes down to it, it's really about the unknown artists and their original art here. Look at the art, people!

This advise is the gift of the mogwai (hey, guess what - I didn't come up with that pun, either).

So no, the PUN is not original but the DESIGN is 100% original and this is why I purchased it. So, thank you Lapuss for an excellent t-shirt. ;)

As for Faniseto, wow, if that was the real Faniseto...terrible etiquette. I would never purchase a Faniseto shirt if that is how he acts. Somebody needs to contact him to find out if that was posted by a troll or the real Faniseto.

Man, all this hooplah about which design came first! Does it really matter? I mean, the pun is so obvious, a thousand people have probably done it. What really matters is the way one interprets the pun into his or her own original design. While both designs are nice, I happen to prefer yours over the other in question. I think it illustrates the pun in a more effective way. In your design, the focus is on Stripe, a "Gremlin" which , of course, is a play on "Kremlin". I find that adding Gizmo, a "Mogwai" (although I know you have him in here, subtly) into the design isn't really a cohesive element when you think about the play on words. That being said, I love the lines, the colors, and the overall design of this tee. You did a great job of really making this hackneyed pun clever. Congrats on the print, Lapuss!
