Tell us a bit about this design.
I thought it would be fun to do a “tuxedo t-shirt” style design inspired by the 11th Doctor. It also makes an easy costume for Doctor Who fans this Halloween.
Where are you from?
I live in Lehi, Utah, but I’m originally from California.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
Besides being a graphic designer for the past 10 years, I also draw comic books. I have penciled a lot of stories for Archie Comics, including Archie: Freshman Year, which chronicles their first year in high school. I have also drawn for Bongo Comics, and just completed a Radioactive Man story, which is due out later this year. I also edit and draw an all-ages series called The Scrapyard Detectives.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
That I have 10 boxes of comics in my studio. But I guess the secret’s out.
Name a few of your favorite things.
My family, Superman, Star Wars, comic books, Doctor Who, Halloween.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
A lot of comic book art. I drew my own superhero comic series in the 4th grade. I charged 10 cents an issue, which was pretty cheap for a photocopied and stapled comic.
What is your favorite thing about t-shirts?
How a design can represent the fan allegiance of the wearer so easily.
Time travel vs. space travel: which would win the battle?
I think time travel wins it.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
My t-shirt with the 1950’s Batman logo.
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I’d have to say reading, since I have so many graphic novels. Right now I’m reading the DC Showcase collected edition of Jonah Hex, the artwork is great in black and white.
What inspires your work?
Just about anything I see can trigger an idea. Looking at other artists like Curt Swan, John Romita Jr., Dan DeCarlo or Alex Toth inspires me to try and do a better job. Also thinking “why doesn’t (fill in geek interest) make this shirt?” helps a lot with my designs.
