Hey guys - we can run the guys in white if everyone thinks that is better - I just thought I would mix it up - but let me know - if there are a bunch of people who want white then I can run extras and you can make sure you get a white - but if its only 10 or less people then we are going to stick with black. ;)
"Hey everyone, I created this design as a means of giving back. We will donate $1 of all of today[']s sales..." Technically, that description is saying $1 total from the ENTIRE day's sales will be donated to the charity. Obviously that's not what you mean, but thought it might help to clarify it, as you have done above it on the page.
Thanks YutFree - updated - does anyone have any good suggestions about getting the word out? I would like to raise enough money to support this girl for a year - which takes $30 per month ($360 total) - its crazy to me to think $360 can take care of this little girl for a year -
Thanks again everyone for participating today - I know it's cliche but a little bit can go so far.
i'm more inclined to buy a guys tee if it were white
and layne, maybe you could also use some of the sales for your future designs every now and then to raise money. and maybe contacting some tshirt blog writers?
This is my third purchase. I loved the colors and the design but wasn't sold till I saw the words, then I was like...whoa gotta have it. Very cool. Love the story and spirit behind the shirt. Ill have this one FO eva... Thanks so much
;( Sorry guys, I just tried to do a work around with our system to add a new color real quick and its just not going to work out very well. I wish we could offer black and white for both mens and womens but we already sourced our blanks - sorry guys ;( maybe we can figure out a way to offer different colors in the future.
Even if 20+ folks wanted a different color our system just is not setup for different color products, so we would have to have everyone email us their request for an oppostite color with their order number then print those emails out and match those order numbers with a white/black tee. Not an impossible feet, but definitely takes us a bit out of the daily rhythm.
Can we donate without buying the tee. You know, the entire nine bucks going to the cause or just donate a buck or two for those who are in need of donations themselves. It's a great print but how many tees does one body need.
Of course! just head over to their site - you can buy a chicken or whatever you like at their site - a few I saw randomly
* 20 CHICKENS - $10
* 10 TURKEYS - $25
So what does it say?
Its the title of the tee Give Hope Love Life Play - can be read as Give Hope. Love Life. Play! or Give. Hope. Love Life and Play! or Give, Hope, Love, Life Play - really the punctuation can fall wherever makes most sense for you ;)
Thank you for today's shirt. I just spent the last hour or so reading about and researching Rising Star Outreach and was amazed by what people are doing to help. I even found a blog by a family who spent a week over the summer volunteering. Such an awesome thing to do. I'm in for a tee and also will be sponsoring a child.
thenewzero - so stoked! Thank you - that is so rad! the concept of mico-lending is really cool - being able to help someone start a business buy purchasing a sewing machine, a milking cow etc. pretty neat ;)
I wonder if we can buy them a some silk screens and plastisol!
Hey Layne,
Not trying to use this in an expoitative way, BUT seriously think of how much more money could be raised if you sold your t-shirts outside of the States.
Any movement on that front?
BTW, perhaps you could donate the $1.00/shirt from the monthly Tee-Fury bird-logo shirt. Just an idea.
Love your enthusiasm for you work Layne.
Awesome idea layne, and a great tee. I can't buy one (being in the UK), but if you wanted to use any of the designs I've submitted (or any other design of mine you'd like to print), I'd be happy to waive my artist commission and let it go towards the cause. If so, just let me know.
normally I don't like words on a shirt (and even then before I thought it was a random pattern and I don't like those much either), but once I saw it was a donation I had to get it (I also need more white shirts anyway). this will be my first shirt from here, and I've been a member since the second day...:D
Since YutFree is pointing out mistakes I thought I should mention that theres an error in the description.
"We were thinking to ask Rising Start to direct our donation to the sponsorhsip of this sweat girl, her name is Annall:"
That is sweat as in perspiration. It's a noun. I imagine you meant for it to read "sweet," which would be a compliment to Annall. It is, of course, also a possibility that you meant for it to read "sweaty," which would not be quite as flattering to Annall.
Did anyone notice there's an inconsistency in the design? The P's in HOPE and PLAY are different. Not that I mind... Still very much considering buying this in black.

That's because its a capitol P instead of lowercase p - ;) just kidding ;) truth is when I had that bottom piece flipped consistent with the top p it just made that edge really sharp - I liked the nice roundedness of the edge when I turned it in.
After growing up all over Africa, this is definitely something I can get behind. Leprosy is something you see every day on the streets in certain cities there, along with many other third world locations.
If by chance you need more recommendations for some great grassroots movements, particularly in West, East or North Africa, hit me up. I was just back there a couple months ago doing some guide work in East Africa and delivered goats to a few families in the process.
Kudos, Layne. Every bit really does make a difference.
magicjj: To be clear, I wasn't pointing out a mistake just to be a smarty pants. I wanted people coming to the site to be clear that EVERY SHIRT purchased would make a difference. Thought that was important.
Although a font is possible, the beauty in this art is that the letters interact with each other. Normally, a font is limited to one character per letter. In this case, each letter was hand assembled to get us to see the words and the patterns at the same time.
Layne and all, here is a good article on the charity. This is the first time I've ever done any sort of sponsoring or large sum donation ($30 a month), but feel really good about it after looking into it and reading about some of the experiences volunteers have had there (like this one). It is a little scary feeling like you're responsible for helping the child til they're 18 (which is what the charity expects when you sponsor) so I went ahead and chose an older girl. That way I have a year or so to try it out. However, I'm fairly certain I'm able to make that kind of commitment (!!) and can sponsor another child once she turns 18.
Anyway, I hope others look into this some and consider making a donation. It's so hard to believe that Leper colonies still exist in our world.
i'm gonna get a few and give them out as christmas presents.
these are a couple of cool sites i visit daily:
www.freerice.com
you can answer all kinds of questions and get 20 grains of rice per question you answer correctly donated to help end world hunger.
www.thehungersite.com
there are tabs at the top of the site that you visit and click their massive button and you can donate cups of food, a mammogram, books for children, help save the rainforest, donate food to animal shelters, and help children in need of healthcare. ALL you have to do is click on a button at this site!!! how easy is that!?! the hunger site also has awesome stores that, with each purchase, something gets donated to these causes.
you can visit these sites as often as you want and help someone.
What a great idea this is, TeeFury! I also like curb1510's idea of donating the proceeds from the monthly logo shirt. I generally loathe logo shirts but a cause like this might very easily sway me to sport a TF logo proudly.
I'm especially impressed to see a gesture like this from such a young company. Either you're selling a lot more shirts than I thought and have cash to spare or, more likely, you're making a real sacrifice for something you believe in -- good for you either way.
I love everything about this shirt and this site and the generosity behind it. Even though it doesn't fit any of my usually purchasing criteria, it basically my entire philosophy and looks cool doing it! I bought one earlier today, then just now showed my 12 year old son and he got one too. This is my first teefury purchase, but I enjoy checking everyday - great designs, great site, great everything.
On color - some white shirts are ok (just ok) and this one works pretty well, but I'm very glad the men's is on black!
On typos - you say "Rising Start" instead of "Rising Star" in the same place that the other person found "sweat" :-)
On sharp edges - by your logic with the two different 'p's I wonder why you didn't round off the 'e' in the upper right corner? Not that you needed to - the asymmetry might be a desired effect... just trying to imagine how it would look rounded. Inconsistent in your inconsistency? ;-)
Thank you (change fixed)! I definitely wade between my left and right brain - the REAL reason is I just made shapes I thought would look cool, but felt I need a witty answer earlier regarding the P. So yes, I like to be inconsistent with my inconsistency - ;)
Thanks again! I am ALMOST done with international shipping after that we are going to add the tee archive and some other cool features so we can check out each others profiles, comments etc. - bring in flickr photos etc. - should be super fun!
Thanks to everyone who has shared this site with friends - we have seen a nice increase in the community and traffic over the last week!
