The cantina scene was a favorite of mine. Love it. I also enjoyed Cheers. This is perfect. And Cooper Black is certainly appropriate for the design.

Love the fishtown side art! I'm from Philly as well. Now live in the burbs, work in KOP. So glad that there are artists in Philly that are getting some face time, and recognition. The other local artist design I loved was the "I'm a MAC" with the mac being the logo of the infamous east coast ATM. GO Delaware Valley!!!!

Don't necessarily "hate" Cheers, but the shirt would be a definite purchase for me if it did NOT have the Cheers style logo on the bottom. I would prefer a shirt with just the characters and nothing else added.

Agreed, I almost said the same but bit my tongue. C'mon it was great until you noticed the font?! WTF? (Why Trash Font?) By the way, the lettering on your avatar really bleeds into the background, I'd adjust that.

Yes, it's the neighborhood where I was born and raised. I do cartoons and comics about the neighborhood for the local paper "The Spirit". Over the years, the cartoons have been collected in books.

When I was a kid, I loved the Cantina scene in Star Wars. As I got older, I've done a lot of bar drawings with creatures mixed in with real people and animals. Mostly the creatures were caricatures in some way of local barflies. I would draw them right at the bar. Local bars would use some off the drawings for fliers and whatnot. I started to realize that they are all derivative of that Cantina scene, so I wanted to do a t-shirt that showed all my favorite characters bro-ing down and hanging out.

Since Tom Spina's Cantina shirt, previously sold on Teefury, was well received by the community, The Cantina Cheers logo was requested to be added to give others a chance to have an upgraded version of the concept.

Where are you from?

A small Philly neighborhood called Fishtown.

How did you get started designing t-shirts?

I've been designing shirts since high school. I remember winning a contest in school. So my shirt was worn by classmates to represent the Freshman class. It was an awesome feeling to see people walking around wearing my work. It still is.

What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?

Try to do a lot of diverse work. You learn more by trying new things.

What would be your dream job?

Freelance cartooning is a dream job I have. I would eventually like to do that full-time. Or be a firefighter like my Dad.

What is your favorite thing about Star Wars?

Always the monsters. The Cantina scene and Jabba's court scene. I am not much into the empire and the starfighter laser fights and all the politics. But the monsters were definitely a point of inspiration that captivated me and left a mark on me since childhood.

What would your ideal house be like?

Tom Waits' garage would be my ideal house.

Muppets vs. Where the Wild Things Are: which would win the battle?

Wild Things are definitely more vicious. I dunno though. The Doglion Muppet and Sweetums look like they could maybe give a good fight.

What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?

Hulk comics most of all. I loved to read about Hulk kicking the crap out of other monsters and the army.

What are a few of your favorite websites?
