About the artist
Tell us a bit about this design.
This design was inspired by one the greatest men to have ever lived (within our TVs), and his love for breakfast foods: Ron Swanson.
Where are you from?
Well, I was born in a nowhere commuter town call Leighton Buzzard, in England. At one point it was labelled the "Drug capital of the UK" so it's just your typical quaint English town, with its fair share of
pubs, drunks, mock Tudor houses and used needles. Fortunately I escaped, and caught a black cab to London as soon as I could, and it's been home for the last five years. There are more used needles here,
but it's a lot cooler.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
I call eggs pre-birds.
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
I'm not actually Swedish at all.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Parks and Recreation (obviously), Daniel Clowes graphic novels, Jack Daniels and coke, awesome burgers, Invincible, New York City, Lego, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Jens Lekman, Game of Thrones, Iron Chic, karaoke, Wayne's World (1&2), Xbox, Madman, golden ales, Caspian, Gothenburg and all the meats. I could go on, but these are the essentials.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
In the UK we have a kids comic called The Beano, and I remember drawing characters from that all the time. I remember being 6 and drawing wolves. A lot. And the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Other than that, I was obsessed with drawing various X-Men. The thing is, I was never that good. I'm no artist, just a graphic designer who gets by with simple shapes in Illustrator.
What is your favorite thing about Parks & Recreation?
It would be easier to say what I don't like about it! The character development from one season to the next is brilliant. The fact that you actually care about these fictional people, for a sitcom, is a great thing to achieve. There isn't a bad character in it, even the smaller supporting characters. It's incredibly well written, and most of all, it's funny. Really funny. For me, it's filled the hole that Arrested Development left when it was cancelled. And dare I say it, I may actually prefer Parks & Recs now. I know, it's comedy blasphemy to say such things!
Bacon vs. eggs: which would win the battle?
There is no competition: Always the meat.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
This is probably a bit arrogant, but I really love one of the shirts I designed for Canadian band Les Jupes. It's an image of a cycloptic king, wielding a sword. I think the reason I like it so much is that
it was one of the first things I designed where I took a step back from it and thought "I'm really proud of that." As a whole, I'm pretty critical of my own work, but cycloptic kings are pretty awesome!
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I love all three, but I watch films more than the other two. If I had to pick my favourite film of all time, it'd be Groundhog Day or Me and You and Everyone we know.
What inspires your work?
Everything and nothing. It's mainly music or film that inspires the content, and that's always been the case. In terms of imagery, I love Scandinavian design, and communist propaganda posters, especially those from Russia. In all honesty, I take in so much, I don't think I could ever pinpoint what inspires me. Music, film, TV, food, comics, books, furniture, friends, London, New York, Sweden... They're all in there, even if it's not evident on the surface.
Any shout outs?
Erm, I am going to use this 24 hours of internet fame to plug my website: www.secretlyswedish.com! Thanks. Oh, and a shout out to Nick Offerman, for portraying such a great character in Ron Swanson.
