About the artist
Tell us a bit about this design.
I haven't seen any new Dr. Who episodes on ScyFy (but my friend Rog says it's supergood). So to me, the 4th Doctor is the most identifiable, I guess because he was on the show when i was a kid. The scarf always struck me as a little nutty. So I wanted to do something to play off these characters with memorable scarves.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in a small Philly neighborhood called Fishtown.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
That I am a proud longtime member of both the Philadelphia Cartoonist Society (www.phillytoon.org) and the Meathaus Comics Collective (www.meathaus.com).
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
That I sleep with an axe under my bed.
Name a few of your favorite things.
My gal Joannie, cartoons, charity work, teaching, cooking, whisky.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
I drew a lot of monster-inspired art. I loved Where the Wild Things Are, the Muppets, and the creatures from the Star Wars Cantina and Jabba the Hutt's Court. I drew a lot of underground cities with monster inhabitants.
What is your favorite thing about Philadelphia?
That each neighborhood is like its own small town.
Wizard vs. Time Lord: which would win the battle?
Washington Wizards. We are talking about the NBA, right? Are the Time Lords a new expansion team? If you're talking about Harry Potter vs. Dr. Who stuff, i still say Wizards.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
I have a Ropeadope Thelonious Monk T-Shirt that I beat to death. I just love Monk and his music. And I've worn the shirt so much that it fits just right.
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I'd like to sound smart and say reading is better, but sadly I watch movies way more than I read books. I'm just not as smart or patient as I'd like to be. My favorite movie of all time is Charlie Chaplin's The Kid.
What inspires your work?
Everything I come into contact with - other art, my neighborhood, friends, family, history. Music is a huge interactive inspiration, because it has a direct influence on the lines I put on paper. I have music on constantly when i draw and design.
Any shout outs?
Yes. In my opinion, the Wire, all 5 seasons combined, might just be the greatest and most effective piece of American art ever created. Get the DVDs and watch them straight through.
