About the artist
Tell us about this design.
This design is a reinterpretation of the Stark family symbol and house "words" from the Song of Ice and Fire series of books, which is currently ALSO a fantastic television show. I wanted to make the symbol of the Stark household a little more ornate than they were described in the books--a bit like a medieval coat of arms.
Where are you from?
I'm from Missouri! We actually just had two tornadoes in my town, so I'm lucky this got finished at all. :3
How would you describe your style?
I love crests, art nouveau--anything ornate. I tend to only draw women, which is a pattern I need to break. My art tends to be very detail-oriented, with a focus on line. I love, love, love hiding little easter eggs in my designs, as well. I'm definitely an artist first, designer second.
If you could collaborate with anyone, who would you pick?
Oh, jeez. Matt Dixon or Adam Hughes. Mostly just so I could pick their brains. Their colouring technique is just phenomenal. I think being in the same room with them might increase my artistic ability.
What historical figure do you most admire?
Leonardo da Vinci. There was NOTHING he couldn't do. It's like he maxed out all of his character's stats. There was something in him that I don't think the world has seen since.
If you weren't designing shirts, what would you be doing?
Painting or web designing. I quit learning about web design to pursue more of a fine art career, and then I found out about the awesomeness of t-shirt and graphic design. I still love web design; I'm just not near as good at it!
If you had to choose one of the houses and the Starks weren't an option, which would you choose?
I would be a Targaryen. I mean, how badass would it be to able to control dragons? That would give you such immense power!
Giraffe vs. elephant: which would win the battle?
Elephant! They have mass on their side, and the giraffes just look so fragile. I've also never seen an angry giraffe, though I'm sure they're terribly frightening.
What is your favorite t-shirt color?
Orange or purple. None of those drab, neutral tones for me--bright colours all the way!
What has been your favorite vacation or travel experience?
My friends and I took a 30 hour, non-stop road-trip to Portland, Oregon about two years ago. Best. Vacation. Ever. I got tipsy and wandered around a gallery crawl in downtown and ended up in a giant "cuddle puddle" with some strangers in the street. If I had the money to move across the country to Portland, I would do it in a heartbeat.
