Tell us about this design.
There's a a scene in the movie Beetlejuice that includes a football team that died in a bus accident and are too dumb to realize what happened. I can't imagine that they'd stop playing football just because they're dead, so I made some merch for their team. I went with "the Saturn Sandworms" because sandworms are the most menacing creature in the afterlife and the desert dimension where the worms lived was called Saturn.
Where are you from?
The dirty south.
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
My day job is corporate web design, so making shirts lets me burn off some creativity and helps keep me from bludgeoning people. I started submitting shirts around the internet about a year ago and I've been lucky enough to find a few people that like what I make.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Practice, practice, practice and never get discouraged. Find people whose stuff you like and try to figure out what they're doing right.
What would be your dream job?
Getting paid to throw pennies at George Lucas' neck fat.
What is your favorite thing about Beetlejuice?
The bizarre and random details and characters that make up the Afterlife. I'd love to see more of that world.
What would your ideal house be like?
Big, old, and creepy. Something kids don't want to walk past.
Whale vs. submarine: which would win the battle?
Depends on whether or not the whale is equipped with torpedoes. Does that exist?
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Jeez, that's tough. I liked all three a lot. I guess comics would be slightly above the others. I still remember my first: a mall Santa gave me an issue of Avengers West Coast after I sat on his lap. Typing that out, it sounds a little creepier than it was... unless I'm repressing something...
What are a few of your favorite websites?
I go to a lot of sites like Conceptart.org, ffffound and the Tuts+ network to be inspired. I also spend a lot of time on sites like BoingBoing, Laughing Squid, and the Gawker sites (Lifehacker, io9, Gizmodo, etc) when I'm supposed to be working. Otherwise, I'm always looking for good tee design blogs.
