Not quite getting the Katakana... must be getting rusty but the closest I could figure was cheesu for the right one and I have no clue what the little one on the right meant (pooso?!) nani?!
Blade Runner takes place in LOS Angeles, not SAN Angeles. You have Blade Runner confused with Demolition Man and for that reason alone I am not buying this shirt.

Would it be possible to correct this before it goes to print?

Exactly. San Angeles was the concept setting. The book uses San Francisco and the movie uses Los Angeles. So, I used the hybrid of the two used in early movie drafts. I thought fans would appreciate that. :-)
Ohhhh, if you're referencing the book... isn't the corporation called the Rosen Association?
Man, I Reallllly want to buy this shirt, but for me it's gotta be either the book or the movie.
Gotta admit, the San Angeles thing confused me too. At first I wasn't sure if the shirt was trying to reference Blade Runner or Demolition Man. Utopia or Dystopia? I'd probably have gone for this one if it had said Los Angeles OR San Francisco (especially L.A., since I live there). As it is, I think I'll pass. :-/
I found your comic explaining the shirt more entertaining than the actual shirt. I'd be pretty cool if you could Integrate the 2? like have a pop culture design with a comic explanation similar to the one on this piece ether together? or maybe on the back or side?
Haha. I can see it now as Im walking down the street someone asks whats my shirt all about and I lift up my arm to reveal a quirky comic strip.

To Ebhall & Lab: Teefury has offered both El Boba and the MST3K theater shirts in the past, you simply missed them. I don't buy often, but this is exactly why I check each and every night to see what's offered.
Oh man, I am SUCH a huge Philip K DonkeyKong fan... but I just bought the Dali shirt yesterday, and this shirt is lacking a strong punch for DADoES. Even just for Blade Runner it's a bit lost. That being said... I would love to see a PKD shirt. Maybe a "Fish Cannot Carry Guns" sort of thing? Or something stronger with Do Androids. Hmm...

Did an entire project in college on Bladerunner including whether Deckard was or wasn't a replicant. Still can't believe I not only got away with it, but got an A in the process!
Vindication came years later with the "ultimate edition" DVD:
Deckard IS a replicant - check the interviews with Ridley Scott. :D
I was going to clamor for a Blade Runner shirt just last week - and then decided myself too high and mighty to post on the requests forum. Lo and behold!
Probably wont get it though. Great colour, great reference material; too sportsy regardless of the chessness. Still, under heavy consideration.. Ugh! Come ON Ribman, I love all your work, why wont you pop something out of your brain that I want to wear and not just look at!!? I am bummed here! True congrats on another great print.
Just wanted to post the part of the film where the chess comes into it. Replicant designer J. F. Sebastian has been visited by the escaped Replicants (led by Roy), and they are on the elevator up to Tyrell's office and living space. As a way to get Tyrell to see them, Roy (quite the manufactured genius) sees that Sebastian and Tyrell play chess (one board is set up in J.F's apartment)...
Tyrell: Sixty-six thousand Prosser and Ankovich. Hmm... trade. Trade at --
Computer: =New entry. A Mr. J. F. Sebastian. 1-6-4-1-7.=
Tyrell: At this hour? What can I do for you Sebastian.
Sebastian: Queen to Bishop 6. Check.
Tyrell: Nonsense. Just a moment. Mmm. Queen to Bishop 6. Ridiculous. Queen to Bishop 6. Hmm... Knight takes Queen. -- What's on your mind Sebastian? What are you thinking about.
Roy: (whispered) Bishop to King 7. Checkmate.
Sebastian: Bishop to King 7. Checkmate, I think.
Tyrell: Got a brainstorm, huh, Sebastian? Milk and cookies kept you awake, huh? Lets discuss this. You better come up, Sebastian.
[elevator is permitted to proceed to the top floor]
Sebastian: Mr. Tyrell. I-- I brought a friend.
Tyrell: I'm surprised you didn't come here sooner.
Roy: It's not an easy thing to meet your maker.
Tyrell: And what can he do for you?
Roy: Can the maker repair what he makes.
Tyrell: Would you like to be modified?
Roy: (to Sebastian) Stay here. -- I had in mind something a little more radical.

Blade Runner is probably the most overrated movie in history. Nothing happens, Harrison Ford broods for 2 hours, Rutger Hauer runs around in his boxers for 30 minutes, and then says something about sheep, the end.

Though this shirt does look sweet.
The original theater release has a Harrison Ford 'film noir' voice-over ("it was raining at the docks, the kind of rain that soaks a man's soul..." kid of thing) and a tacked-on Happy Ever After ending.
Don't watch that version.
A copy of the Director's Cut was found in the early 1990s without the voice-over and with a much better ending that actually makes you think. Ridley Scott initially publicly disowned this workprint version because it was too rough and didn't have the Vangelis music ...but in 2007, the Final Cut was released with Scott's blessing. It's the Director's Cut with improved effects and corrected for continuity errors. And, of course, the music.

You had me at 'replicant'. I love everything about this design! And they SHOULD have used San Angeles in the movie. If that had popped up onscreen in the opening moments there would have been a cool moment of WTF from the audience! Anyway, 'sold!' ;)
If this didn't have the sports reference, it would be an insta-buy for me. Love the design and the Blade Runner reference, but can't get past the indication of a sports team :/
laughtrack said: Hey TeeFury/Captain Ribman: Any way to fix the Tyrel typo before it goes to print?
Just bought it, the design and shirt color are swell. Then I noticed the typo. If you could fix that before printing, that'd be awesome. Else I'll look like someone who shops for bootleg Engrish shirts.

My Latin is crusty, too, but I think the grammar is incorrect. Its bothering me so much I think it will have to sit this shirt out. :(
Humaniores Quam Humani - I think that covers the Latin declension correctly. The 'litterae humaniores' are the humanities, the study of being more human, so 'humaniores' is literally 'more human'. Quam is the Latin for 'than', and 'humani' literally means 'to be human', 'being human'.

I know this poster personally. He was abused by a Blade Runner fan as a child I'm pretty sure. So forgive him his hate. It is born of deep scars. That is the only explanation I can think of. :) He once told me "I can name 20 Sci Fi movies off the top of my head better than Blade Runner... the first one would be Star Wars Episode One The Phantom Menace".

Please read "Do Androids Dream Of Electric Sheep?"
I have read it, I have two different editions and while DADoES was the source material for Blade Runner it is incredibly different. For instance the term "replicant" is never used in the original text.
Also I could more easily accept the reference if the movie didn't start out with a titlecard that said "LOS ANGELES, NOVEMBER 2016" and the movie is far more iconic than its source material.
Anyway, nice design but sadly still not a buy for me.

The Japanese (Katakana characters, see my post earlier) does say 'pawn' and 'chess' phonetically.
But it could also say 'porn' and 'chess' too.
Never play Gary Kasparov at porn chess, unless you intend to lose. Losing at porn chess can get ...interesting.

Cheers, I ...guess? :) Maybe that's shining a different light on the nature of Tyrell & Sebastian's relationship, if it's what they were really playing.
I honestly had know clue what this shirt was about... After reading the comments I realize what it is. I'm not buying the shirt but I absoutly loved the kessel run side art :) And as for the R2-D2/Dalek and C3PO/Cyberman side art... didnt they already do one of those? Really teefury were remaking shirts now?
I just want to say: yes, the Latin isn't grammatically correct. But it's not as though the Roman Empire has an equivalent of Engrish.com. Although someone may know, being a geek, and start quoting The Life Of Brian at you.
But design-wise, it's beautiful. Great use of the symbols. Multiple languages, just like the film. The owl. It can't be faulted there.
This shirt cements Ribman as one of the best designers on here! Most of my Teefury shirts are Ribman creations and they usually get the most comments. I love my EL Boba and Tuskens shirt and I just noticed that he has a Gorn Fishin' on his site.....Ribman, you're killing me!!

oh, how funny... I was trying to be clever and you replaced my cleverness with "smurf" ... i should have typed C.R.A.P. which is what I meant, not anything insulting to the Captain...
I hate to break it to you guys but Deckard is human. He's human in the book though that is argueable. But hm being human in the book makes it much more dark and thought provoking. If you want to go with the movie then fine but everyone in the movie is a replicant, according to the original scteefurycopy.
Well I love the movie and the design. Awesome job Captain Ribman

Watch the Final Cut version.

Batman...love the books but the cartoons are just awful

Of course, I was listening to Batman stories on the original vinyl. Back then, he had an assistant called Mosquito Girl. You wouldn't have heard of her.

No need to be rude. The side art was already a shirt, and can now be bought elsewhere: http://www.redbubble.com/people/ribman/t-shirts/5327829-el-boba-boba-fett-moonlights-as-a-mexican-wrestler

Just bought it, the design and shirt color are swell. Then I noticed the typo. If you could fix that before printing, that'd be awesome. Else I'll look like someone who shops for bootleg Engrish shirts.
Boudiccasaid 51 weeks ago
My Latin is crusty, too, but I think the grammar is incorrect. Its bothering me so much I think it will have to sit this shirt out. :(

Humaniores Quam Humani - I think that covers the Latin declension correctly. The 'litterae humaniores' are the humanities, the study of being more human, so 'humaniores' is literally 'more human'. Quam is the Latin for 'than', and 'humani' literally means 'to be human', 'being human'.

Thanks. The string of adjectives in odd cases with an adverb thrown in was not doing it for me.

I'd have though with your Username, overcoming anything Latin would be easy!!

Oh, the Latin is off in addition to the "Tyrel" typo? My excitement for the shirt I just purchased took a little dive now. It's probably wishful thinking you'd fix both before printing the shirts?

Lol, that is a good one.
Heh, she did fail in the end, though.

I know this poster personally. He was abused by a Blade Runner fan as a child I'm pretty sure. So forgive him his hate. It is born of deep scars. That is the only explanation I can think of. :) He once told me "I can name 20 Sci Fi movies off the top of my head better than Blade Runner... the first one would be Star Wars Episode One The Phantom Menace".
chevkochsaid 51 weeks ago
Jesus, for real?! Haha, please fill me in so I can at least point out the complete list of errors to anyone inquiring about the design and pretend I donned this for the comical failure value.

Anyway, nice design but sadly still not a buy for me.
go_mifunesaid 51 weeks ago
Pros: Bladerunner/DADOES? Cons: Green. Sports. Few graphics.
I think if the graphics were more a la Pee-Chee folders with various replicants in place of athletes that would be an instant buy for me...

But design-wise, it's beautiful. Great use of the symbols. Multiple languages, just like the film. The owl. It can't be faulted there.
If you are going to use a phrase like this, do Google. You can even find the difference between 'more human than human' and 'more human than dirt' is just one letter. Or run it by us guys. Some of us are too smart for our own good!
