Accio Brains
About the artist
Tell us a bit about this design.
Inspired by the following passage in the fourth of J.K.Rowling's Wizard/Zombie Apocalypse tomes:
'My advice,' said Moody loudly, interrupting him, 'is to use a nice, simple spell which will enable you to get what you need.'
Harry looked at him blankly. What did he need?
'Brains,' moaned Harry.
Where are you from?
I come from a place where we like telling tall tales to visitors about riding on kangaroos to work, killer bears (actually marsupials) dropping from trees to eat brains, and that the music of Cold Chisel is actually listenable. In Melbourne, somewhere near the bottom of Australia. We do have spiders, though. Lots of spiders.
What do you want TeeFury fans to know about you?
Mostly lies. Wonderful, self-aggrandising lies. But in place of those, that my artwork and other such nonsense can be found here: http://www.nathandavis.com.au
What do you absolutely not want them to find out?
The location of the tablet of Ra'kshal Da'an. The bloody thing has the power to undo all my handiwork.
Name a few of your favorite things.
Chocolate and milk. If there were some sort of way of combining the twoOH MY GOD I just had like the best idea ever. Oh wait it's been done.
What kind of art did you make as a kid?
My childhood was mostly me drawing cartoon animals, and half of those were teenaged, mutated, some kind of ninjas, but not purely restricted to turtles.
What is your favorite thing about zombies?
I don't really watch that many zombie movies. I have horrible flashbacks to my time working in a call centre. That said, my favourite thing about zombies is that they are easily distracted by facebook, and will knock off half an hour early if given the chance.
Swords vs. spells: which would win the battle?
Not sure. My neighbours had called the authorities before my housemates and I could really put this to the test. If they didn't peek over the fence every time someone let out a blood curdling scream, science would move forward so much faster.
Describe your favorite shirt that you own, and why you like it so much.
At the moment, the top place goes to Captain Ribman's "It's Just a Flesh Wound". I was raised by parents who didn't seem to realise it was a bad idea to expose a 9 year old to British absurdist humour. They have since regretted this. (Also, the shirt is a pretty damn sweet illustration, with far too many references.)
Which is better, gaming, reading, or watching movies? Name your favorite title in your chosen medium.
I'm one of those wishy-washy fence sitters that think each medium has its strengths. So let's say Yoshi's Island for the SNES, The Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Studio Ghibli's Porco Rosso... ALL MELDED INTO AN INTERACTIVE BOOK THAT YOU CAN WATCH.
What inspires your work?
Lack of sleep. No really. I get my more workable ideas after midnight.
Any shout outs?
Yes. I'd like to yell to my local council that they are "Doing it wrong", but this really isn't the forum for it.
I'd like to thank everyone who has supported my shirts so far, here and elsewhere. It's a strange feeling to know that someone on the other side of the world is displaying your artwork on their chest. There are friends both on and off the net who have bought and promoted my work, Bamboota, Shirtoid, Af, Nic, Richard, Sophie, Charlie, Amber, Michelle, Chloe... I'm sure there are many, many more people who've been left out. If you've spoken to me, you know how grateful I am to all of you.
And a reminder for all the site browsers. Whenever you see a t-shirt site, go back through the archives and look up the artists whose designs interest you. They've usually got a lot more you might like.
