I like the design a lot personally, but I think some people wouldn't understand that it's meant to be inspired by Dali. Amazing artwork, and a huge congrats on your first print with teefury!

You're kidding, right? Dali is as well known as Picasso or Rembrandt. His stuff is known to the general public. Your mom knows Dali...your neighbor knows Dali...your mailman knows Dali. If you don't know Dali, take this opportunity and educate yourself.
  • yayjinazsaid 52 weeks ago

  • Catfisherssaid 52 weeks ago

The fact that there are people that either don't understand the Dali reference, or think it tenuous, really saddens me. Also: if the only Dali painting you know is The Persistence of Memory then you're doing something wrong.

I don't want to sound like a DonkeyKong, but really.

This is an extremely clever design, congratulations.

I'm going to have to join in with PureInvasion here. I mean, I've seen his melting clocks, but I had absolutely no idea what his name was... Nor was I familiar with the work this shirt was based on. It's not a household name in my household. :P
And for the record, I don't know about my mailman, but my mom does *not* know Dali. Apparently I come form a very uncultured family.

Regardless, the connection seems really random. I'm not sure I'm all over Star Wars + fine art.

Oh well. As it is, definitely considering a buy. The linear mountains/dunes in the back are a great touch.

I agree about the Death Star.

As for not getting Dali... that does surprise me a bit. Dali (like Picasso for instance) is one of those few artists who IS pop-culture. I would have imagined that people know nothing about him personally, but would instantly recognise his work and his moustache.

anyways nice art and good luck on the sales

You're kidding, right? Dali is as well known as Picasso or Rembrandt. His stuff is known to the general public. Your mom knows Dali...your neighbor knows Dali...your mailman knows Dali. If you don't know Dali, take this opportunity and educate yourself.

I'm not sure I'm all over Star Wars + fine art.

exactly...I know the melting clocks but I never knew "dali" made it. Though I barely know any Picasso or Rembrandt pieces just by looking at them either.
there is an art app for the iphone/ipod. Or go buy an art history book. If you can't recognize a Picasso or Rembrandt (even Dahli), lets throw in a Jackson Pollock, De Kooning, Warhol...these are all artist that have shaped what you enjoy visually every day. They have pushed the boundaries of art during their time. Whether or not, they are house-hold names in your home, they should be in your visual dictionary. At least you'll sound intelligent during the Thanksgiving dinner discussion.

Two of my favorites, mashed together. Not enough Dali references in my life. Thank you.

It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.

I literally dreamed this design last week. I loved the idea so much I wrote it down the moment I woke up. Guess there's no need to start sketching... :(

oh man, i love this design but i'm so broke!

While i never go for star wars designs i gotta say, I'm impressed. Now that i get the reference, I love it. I never wear star wars shirts because to the public it shouts "HUGE NERD" and i try to find a comfortable medium but seeing this is so fresh in my mind. While i never knew the name dali, i knew the melting clocks. And now that i know the name i will never forget it, just like I will never forget this design.

Just wear what you like. If it really bothers you that much, work out a lot and try going out on dates to stave off preconceived stigmas, if you aren't already doing one or both (I'm not trying to be insulting, so forgive me if you initially took it that way).

Star Wars is a cultural behemoth in terms of popularity and universal appeal, and I'd even venture to say that the original trilogy of films are objectively great. Anyone who bothers you about it shouldn't be taken too seriously anyway, regardless of whether you're a "nerd" or not... =/
