About the artist
Tell us about this design.
It's a hard economy we currently live in. It seems like simply working hard isn't enough anymore. Sometimes you just have to be sure there is still a reason for your job in the first place. This idea was the culmination of an hour-long brainstorm with a good friend of mine.
Where are you from?
Sauk Rapids, MN
How did you get started designing t-shirts?
I was doing some freelance logo creation for a friend, and I was always brainstorming these weird ideas for the logos. After looking at some of my designs, he suggested that I start entering shirt competitions with fake logos. Some trial, error and few years later, here I am today.
What advice would you offer to aspiring designers?
Take criticism lightly because everyone's opinion is subjective. There will always be people that love or hate your work. Keep at it and always mess with new styles.
What would be your dream job?
Honestly, I would love to be a gear tester for an outdoor magazine. Camping, hiking, fishing, snowboarding, skiing... any of it would work. It would be amazing to use all of the newest gear before everyone else.
What are your feelings about camping?
I am in love with trekking. There is no greater feeling than taking your pack off after a day of rough terrain. Especially when the closest human contact is over 15 miles away. FYI: I always follow "leave no trace." Including making sure my fire pits are drowned before moving on the following day. I wouldn't want to start a forest fire ;)
What would your ideal house be like?
I always wanted to live in a treehouse.
Carebears vs. My Little Ponies: which would win the battle?
Carebears, they are bears after all. I assume they would still be omnivores, and thus eat meat when available.
What was your favorite as a kid: comics, cartoons, or movies? Was there a specific title you liked most of all?
Comics. Calvin and Hobbes is the greatest comic ever sketched. I have the utmost respect for Mr. Watterson and his creation. I grew up mimicking Calvin's crazy antics.
What are a few of your favorite websites?
Teefury.com - of course ;) stumbleupon.com - the only way to randomly surf the net vector.tutsplus.com - great resource for tips in Illustrator
Any shout outs?
To all the new designers out there, stick with it. I hope you have as much support from family and friends as I do. And to my fiancee Shannon, for accepting my hours of late-night designing.
