To critique a work from another culture, we must first step outside of ourselves and our own preconceptions, preferences and predilections. We must ask not, "what does this work say to me", but "what does it intend to say to its target audience", and judge it upon the success it has in conveying that message. To say that Klingons are incapable of embodying the range of human emotions misses the point, because they are not *attempting* to mimic the human condition, but are using their inherent artistic tools to reflect their own unique world view. In the case of the two works in question, I believe that they are both equally as successful as their human counterparts in establishing a narrative that speaks to the core nature of their respective audiences, while doing so within the accepted framework of their particular cultures.
