A word from the curator:
Robots are all around us, just waiting to assemble themselves...
Tell us about this design.
This design is decades of game controller history all in the one Bot!! I had previously done the ViewBot3000 design that featured decades of plastic toy history. So I decided to take the concept further featuring personal favourites from Playstation, Nintendo and Atari.
Which art style would you most like to learn?
I don't have a particular style that I would like to learn, I just do what feels right at the time and roll with it.
If you had a time machine, which era would you visit first?
I would go back to my childhood in the 70s, buy a bunch of toys and cars and stash them in storage!!
What goal do you most aspire towards?
I currently have two goals. I am in the process of creating my own brand of t-shirts and working simultaneously on an i-phone game. Hopefully one day these will come to fruition!!
If you could stop any t-shirt trend in its tracks, which would you end? What trend would you like to see started?
Those Obama esque poster shirts with one word at the bottom do my head in, its been done to death! I had this idea where you could create a site where the user gets to choose the colour of the design (single colour designs) and the colour of the shirt, I just have no idea how well it would work or how you would make the logistics of it work unless you had access to a DTG printer! I think that would be pretty cool....
Would you rather be unusually smart or unusually creative?
The 'Unusually creative' category rings true to me, I love creating artwork that pushes boundaries!
Rock Band vs. Guitar Hero: which would win the battle?
No idea, don't play either, maybe I should get onto that!!
Describe the first shirt you ever designed.
When I was twelve years old I traced LP record cover artwork onto a white t-shirt using permanent black markers. There is about 40 different little bits of artwork covering the whole shirt, sleeves and all. I still have the shirt today (24 years later) and it still rocks!!
What has been your most inspiring art experience?
I would have to say generally on a day-to-day basis the online t-shirt world inspires me more than anything else. Sites like teefury, redbubble, mysoti, designbyhumans, threadless, shirtoid, teemagnet - these are what feed me. I visit these regularly and find that I get excited by what I see. Seeing other artists pushing the boundaries inspires me to push the boundaries also. The energy put into others artwork feeds my desire to create more art!
Any shout outs?
To my beautiful partner Vicky and my two month old son Eli, I love you both from here to the outer edges of forever! forever and ever....
