About the artist
A word from the curator:
Firefly might be the greatest one season sci-fi series in history. If you haven't seen it, you owe it to yourself to rectify that immediately!
How did you get your start as an artist?
Probably like ever other artist on TeeFury, if not every artist in the civilized world, I started out with a 16 pack of Crayola crayons, and the bottom eighteen inches of all the walls in my parents' house.
Gummy bears vs. gummy sharks: which would win the battle?
The answer to this question all comes down to venue, I'd say, with each beast obviously having the advantage on their home turf. That's why the only way to settle it once and for all would be a SPACE battle, where both are out of their natural element. That being said, Gummy Sharks would probably still have the advantage, as they're more accustomed to moving through an environment where gravity plays less of a role than on land.
Of course, if they teamed up together they'd be completely unstoppable. And unbelievably sticky.
Please recommend one cartoon and one children's book.
I was just given a crop of Danger Mouse DVDs, and I have to say that I had totally forgotten how incredibly strange and fun that show was. As for children's books, I can't recommend highly enough "The Monster at the End of this Book". It's a cautionary tale of modern man's disconnect from his true self featuring an award-worthy performance by Grover, and a twist ending that will leave you reeling.
What is your cult going to be called?
Given that so many religions and cults end in "-ians" (Raelians, Branch Dividians, and Canadians, to name a few) It's a little surprising that more people don't realize that they are already IN one of my cults. My next one will probably just be "The Ians", to simplify matters.
Do you have any pets? If so, tell us about them.
Yes, we have one dog - a pug named Norman. My wife and I both work from home, and Norman spends most of his time during the days in the office with us working on his own personal projects - by which I mean sleeping. And snoring. Also, occasionally there is barking. It's a multi-faceted and demanding job, for sure. He also has a blog that he's kept up for 7 years (with the help of my wife), though since the advent of Facebook, he doesn't post nearly as much as he once did. Which is better for my ego, since at one point he was getting more hits a day than I was.
I saw on your FB page that you brew your own beer & even have a 3-tap kegerator. So... are you a Light Beer or a Dark Beer guy? (from trey_3d)
Everything in its season, I say. With 3 taps, I generally try to keep a selection of different styles going so that there's something for everyone, but I do tend toward more light beers like Kolsch, Saison or Pilsner in the spring and summer while fall and winter see a lot more Scottish Ales, Porters and Stouts.
if you could only see one for the rest of your life, which would you choose - sunrise or sunset? (from niku)
OK, now this is an easy one - given that I've seen hundreds or possibly even thousands of sunsets in my life, but only umm, ones of sunrises, I'm going with sunsets all the way, especially given that any time I DO see a sunrise although I am of course awestruck by it's beauty, I'm also a little ticked to be up so early in the morning.
Donald or Daffy? (from noiselessness)
The two mightiest animation houses of the past century BOTH had duck characters that were frequently flustered by events turning against them and constantly overshadowed by their more popular "main" characters - suspicious, don't you think? It's a tough call, but I'm going to go with Daffy; unlike Donald, he often seemed to be totally undeserving of the punishment he received, and I think he deserves a little recognition for it.
And aside from all that, he wins just for "Duck Amuck" where he's battling the animator himself, and of course his role as "Duck Dodgers!", without which the world would never have been introduced to Marvin the Martian or Gossamer.
