Where are you located?
I am currently residing in a fallout shelter in Northeast Ohio, eating canned green beans and preparing for the zombie apocalypse (see below).
Tell us about yourself:
I am a pretty ordinary guy who occasionally likes to dabble in illustration and cartooning. I just like making people laugh, really, and those are the best ways I've found to do that.
What's a day in the life of Chris like?
Good question, I've been trying to figure that out for a while! I would say I am a pretty boring person, really. I typically get up (much later than I should) and go to work (or rather, rush to work on account of the first point), then come home and relax. If I have an idea that I'd like to work on, I'll usually do some sketches or jot down some ideas, but that is often as far as I get. Usually I end up reading a book or watching a movie. That is, until midnight when I don my crime fighting attire and purge the streets of criminal scum. Nothing too exciting.
What other interests do have besides t-shirt art?
I really also love books, but I especially love movies. I watch probably way more movies than I should, but I truly love the power of a good story. I have not really tried my hand at either thus far, but two of my life goals are writing and illustrating a book and making a film. Those are on my Bucket List between meeting Bigfoot and finding the secret to eternal youth. No luck with either so far.
This is your first print at Teefury. Got any other prints elsewhere?
I've been fortunate enough to have this be my fourth t-shirt print. I have had three shirts printed at Threadless over the past couple of years.
What do you want Teefury fans to know?
I guess I'd just like to say I hope you enjoy this design and thanks for the chance to share it!
Would you rather survive a zombie apocalypse or a nuclear apocalypse?
I have thought long and hard about this question for a while now, and I have ultimately come to the conclusion that surviving a zombie apocalypse would be much more fun. Anyone who has watched as many movies as I have knows that zombie outbreaks are often exhilarating and very entertaining, while the aftermath of a nuclear apocalypse is downright depressing. I mean, having to fend for yourself to survive against starvation and human depravity in a perpetual nuclear winter might sound like fun to some people, but not to me. Wall to wall gray skies? Blech! Besides, with a zombie apocalypse, even if you DON'T survive, you're still golden because then you become a zombie, and let's face it, zombies have all the fun!
Do you collect anything, or at least have any OCD about anything?
I wouldn't say that I really collect anything too actively, but I do save all my movie ticket stubs for some weird reason. I guess it ties back into my love of movies, and it's interesting to go back and look through the ticket stubs and see which movies I've gone to over the years ( "I saw Pearl Harbor three times?!") Also, I'm trying my best to get on Hoarders, but they won't return my calls.
Fans of any TV shows (old or new)? Why is it your favorite?
I actually don't watch that much tv, but there are a few shows that will always have a place in my heart. As a kid, I loved watching Knight Rider and Magnum P.I. for the sheer cheesy fun of it. Oh, who I am kidding, I wanted the sweet cars and the chest hair and 'stache! I still can't grow a mustache of any respectability and it remains a constant source of shame. Right now, the only show I regularly watch is Man vs. Food on the Travel channel because I love food and Adam Richman, the host, is hilarious. I will occasionally catch an episode of the Simpsons, which I think is one of the most brilliant shows ever and I don't watch it nearly enough. I also enjoy The Office and I love watching reruns of Arrested Development.
What's your art process like, from initial sketch to finished product?
Usually, a project for me starts with just an idea in my head of something funny that I'd like to see. I always keep a notebook on me for when an idea strikes and I feverishly scribble down my thoughts before I forget them. From that initial idea, I will usually do a rough sketch just to get a feel for the layout and from there, I will do a pencil drawing and then go over it in ink with a brush and a pen. The last step is scanning it in and adding color in Photoshop.
MAC or PC?
Growing up, I always used a PC, but I must say after working with Macs for the past few years, I am a convert. I still wouldn't say that I really have a true loyalty one way or the other, though. If someone wants to use a PC, that's cool, just don't try to talk to me. Or make eye contact. Seriously though, to each his/her own. We all have our preferences and mine happens to be Mac.
Recommend a product:
I found these little notebooks when I was in Portland recently called Writersblok and I really like them a lot. They are the perfect pocket size and they are made of bamboo paper, which I'm not sure is better than regular paper, but it sure sounds cool!
